Filmmaker Michael Moore released his latest documentary for free on the Internet on Tuesday, marking a first for the maverick director who aims to encourage young people to vote -- preferably for Democrats -- in November's U.S. presidential election.

"Slacker Uprising," a feature-length film documenting Moore's tour of swing states during the 2004 presidential election year, was made available for a free download instead of being released in movie theaters.

The maker of the award-winning anti-Iraq war blockbuster "Fahrenheit 9/11," said in a statement the gesture was "entirely as a gift to my fans."

"The only return any of us are hoping for is the largest turnout of young voters at the polls in November," Moore said.

    • If the financial crisis in America escalates any further, could that be the 'state of emergency' that Bush is looking for to cancel the election and do away with the 22nd amendment? We've already seen plenty of examples of Bush's regime's total disregard for the constitution already, why would he stop now?

    • I give him alot of credit and I hope he achieves his goal of mobilizing more democratic votes, God knows we need more people like him than we do people who believe a trillion dollar bail out to Bush is O.K.. What a bunch of knotheads. Keep up the good work Michael Moore, another ten minutes of Bush is to much let alone 4 years of a bad clone of Bush in the disguise of McCane. Make America great and proud again vote for Obama and restore respect for America in the world.

    • Eh, not a big fan. Roger and Me and Fahrenheit 911 were good films but Bowling for Columbine and Sicko were the biggest loads of horse shit I've ever seen. And a documentary reminding me how we failed to take out the Bush Regime in 2004 isn't going to be any better. Even if it is free.

Party politics is the game of divide and conquer.

Keep the people divided and they will fight each other or at the very least they'll be distracted whilst the power elite take everything.

you gotta be kidding. he's giving it away. how could he walk his talk any more than he is doing? Michael Moore has been a tremendous influence in making documentary filmmaking more popular, and a viable film format in theatres where once people rarely would pay to see a documentary. He was one of the first directors to champion DIY digital filmmaking, as well. You may not like his opinions or style, but he has done a tremendous amount of good work for filmmakers, activists and as a citizen. What do you do to live your beliefs?

I do as I expect others to do or I wouldn't bother voicing my opinion on such.

Moore gives me the creep factor. Many people who have stated things that are wrong with the world have been creeps. Them stating factual wrongs do not make them morally wonderful.

If I didn't already like documentaries.....Moore would have had me dislike them. His 9/11 one sucked and was pointless and offered nothing but someone grasping at straws.

I want to see his Columbine film and I am going to see this one as well....but I'm not going to praise someone that profits from other's problems.

    • Do you honestly think there will be an election this year?

If Bush and his cronies get their way they'll ax the 22nd amendment just like they killed the rest of the constitution with Patriot acts 1 and 2 and HR1955.

Cheney, in a speech back in 2007, suggested that the Bush administration may seek to challenge the 22nd amendment in an effort to ensure the war in Iraq was successful.

This link has more info on that speech.

    • I like Moore's work. He's the one who helped show the public some of Americas secrets. Sicko was excellent. I can't wait to see this one.

    • Michael Moore told us about 9/11
Told us about the Bush Administration
The people who called him a crock are the people who are shocked now

      How did this happen?
      Why didn't anyone warn us?

You ignored the message. Feel free to ignore this one as well
