McCain said 'after we were able to help the Afghan freedom fighters drive the Russians out of Afghanistan we washed our hands of the the region.' Guess who their number one freedom fighter was? Osama bin Laden.-

How are you bringing this to the left? Who on the left supported Bin Laden and the mujahadeen? Freedom fighters is not technically what they were called. Ronald Reagan called them that. To still refer to them as 'Freedom Fighters' 20 years later when they've went on to form the Taliban and Al Qaeda shows lack of foresight or hindsight.

McCain was correct that Bin Laden was a freedom fighter just because he was our ally? Sorry man but that's retarded. Just because some one was our ally does not mean they're 'freedom fighters.' It shows how misguided McCain's foreign policy is that he is still referring to a former allies as 'freedom fighters' 20 years later when they went on to form Al Qaeda and the Taliban.

Why does everyone want to get their panties in a twist over reality. Thats reality, you may not agree with it but guess what, he was a freedom fighter. The Afghani's were used by us to rid the region of Communist. Then we left, didn't follow through as usual (can we say Iraq?) and you get a group of unsatisfied, trained, armed people that see that America used them. It's sad but reality.
Did anyone else hear Benazeer Bhutto say that they were looking for Omar Sheik as the terrorist involved in Osama Bin Laden's murder, coincidentally before she was killed? Thats knews we don't hear. As she blamed the Pakistani gov't for their ties to Sheik . Look it up.

Yeah! The Russians were fighting the Mujahadeen - the movenment that would later splinter off to produce the Taliban! McCain is so russophobic, he'd probably go back to the Hanoi Hilton rather than admit anything even remotely like this! The ruskis were evil nazis and the Taliban were freedom fighters! If Russia is involved it's bizarro world all the way for John McCain!
Had the USA not been funding the Taliban then and sending in Rambo, we might not have the Taliban and Islamic extremism in Afhganistan today!!!

Well if you did your homework then you would know that that was exactly what they called Bin Laden and the Mujaheddin who the US government help train, fund and arm. This is when the CIA actually created the Bin Laden we know today. We trained him, gave him millions of dollars if not billions plus the countless weapons we supplied them with, and we called him and his people "Freedom Fighters", but now they have turned on us for similar reasons of what they were originally fighting for, now they are called "Terroists".
We originally motivated Bin Laden to overthrow the Soviet influence in Afghanistan because they were outsiders who were intruding on the Islamic's Holy Land. After that though, they started to see the same motivation to fight because of the US's continued presence in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. So, same people, same motivation, but now they are labeled terrorists because it is us that they want out of their holy land instead of the Russians.
The real kicker is that our own government is largely responsible for creating these terrorists to use as a tool for preventing the spread of soviet influence. This is just one example of how our meddling in the affairs of foreign nations has blown up in our face.
... and now our government says they hate us because they don't like our way of life and our 'freedom'... what a joke!

Is McCain also suggesting that somehow he'll take care of the same veterans he's historically neglected? He plunges us into the war, tells us we're cowards if we leave, and then calls the enemy FREEDOM FIGHTERS. It's sickening what they'll just throw in your face.
