Gingrich even expressed concern with Paulson's connections to Wall Street. The treasury secretary served as the chairman of a major global investment banking and securities firm before joining the Bush administration.
"You have the former Chairman of Goldman Sachs asking for 700 billion dollars, and in his initial request, asking for it in such an un-American way that I think he should have resigned... "
-
in the interview he was stumbling when speaking about his prior experience as CEO, which says a lot more than a simple Freudian slip on his part. The government only cares about the best interest of Wall Street here, forget the several people who face losing their own homes

It is a shame the American people can't see this just another administration ploy. Another couple of well planned "Disasters" and we will be a socialistic republic before Bush leaves office.
-
Paulson must go. Put him in the basement if he won' t resign and can' t be fired. He let this mess happen and didn't warn us until there was no choice.

Newt Gingrich said that!?
Gingrich is all about welfare for the rich. Paulson must have done something to piss him off. He probably didn't include Gingrich's financial interests in the plan.

I wish Newt would stay retired, or do something useful with his time like Jimmy Carter.
Here's the deal. I think Paulson was dumbstruck when he saw what was going down, and in his experience on wall st. he put together what he thought would work. Now the part about absolute unquestioned authority is total BS.
I think something significant had to be done, but it doesn't mean I like it, its like holding a tiger by the ears, you don't like it, but you dont dare let go.
Just think for a moment about all these government wonks talking about irresponsible wall st. while Bush has racked up far more debt than the money wall st. stands to get. Think of the uproar if China decides to call in those debts.
I am sure I dont have to belabor the point of the iraq war costing far more than this, and rising daily, but I am going to. This 700 billion is to save our 401k's, investments and our bank accounts ultimately, just how are we benefitting from the iraq war, where they have a huge budget surplus, yet we sink 10 billion a month on them.
We have an actual chance, slim as it may be to break even, or even profit from this bailout. What return are we getting from iraq?

What's happening to me? I actually agree with Newt Gingrich!
-
The country is in a sad place when Newt Gingrich starts to make sense.
-
Yeah I agree, being on Gingrich's side is definitely a first for me... Paulson is a dirty politician and we should not allow him to see one cent of tax payers money!
-
Why is newt back? didn't he slither out in disgrace a few years ago and how that there is a disaster he's raising his ugly little face trying to make a comback. Ugh fuck him.
-
Although I think this bill is sadly necessary, Newt is right that $700 billion put in one man's hands is an extremely un-American concentration of political power. This bill needs oversight out the wazoo.
-
I think this may be the final sign of the apocalypse: I actually agree with something Newt Gingrich said!
I feel dirty just saying it...

What is un-American about this? Our politicians always do this kind of stuff anyways.
Start using clearer vocabulary. At least say it's "Bad"-

If an endless war with a bottomless budget was 'un-American' than this financial crisis would probably not exist, and there you be no 'American' bailout necessary.

The way Gingrich is frowning make me think he lost a lot of money on this bailout.

Even though Newt is un-American, I agree with him! Bush, Cheney, Rice, Paulson, Rove, Rumsfeld, Wolffovitz, and the lot belong behind bars. Comngress should do the right thing and prosecute these people.
-
Don't be sick or sad because you agree with Newt. It's called "maturing" .
Churchill said it best. "If you're not a liberal at 20 you have no heart, if you're not a conservative at 40 you have no brain".But when someone's right their right.
As for the bad photo it's because it's posted on ABC.-

What's Newt's angle here? I don't get the political positioning. He's working for the same people that Pelosi, Frank, Paulsen and Bernanke are working for. So why take this position?
What the game being played? Is it that the Establishment wants a divided America? It almost seems that way.
I'm going to keep a close watch on this one. Something doesn't make sense to me right now.

Woah woah woah. Let's take a mature, adult look at this, shall we? Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson has been in his position for, umm, about 2 years, give or take a few months. Did all this come to a head within the last two years? NO. We've all come to understand that this is a bit older than that, right?
Who ought to go on trial is Alan Greenspan and Bernanke, both of whom were instrumental to the wind-up to this fiasco. Those two, as head of the Fed, led us down this slope and ought to be prosecuted, imho.
On a side note, I'd love to read this article, written by Bernanke in 83:
Ben S. Bernanke (1983). "Nonmonetary effects of the financial crisis in the propagation of the Great Depression". American Economic Review 73 (3): 257–276. doi:10.2307/1808111 (inactive 2008-06-23).

WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!
I AM AGREEING WITH REPUBLICANS?!!?
-
I am glad the conservative republican movement has ended in this country. The days of conservative dominance is over. It is a breath of fresh air when political partisanship steps aside to voice opposition . It is something that has not occurred in this country for quite some time.
