Hackers are traditionally viewed as renegade computer nerds wreaking havoc on innocent citizens, but a lot of hackers are do-it-yourself (DIY) electricians, programmers, security consultants and artists who may operate in grey areas yet to be defined by law.

Hacker Ethic is a provocative feature documentary that explores the politics and culture of the latest generation of hackers.

Although hackers vary in range from being total social misfits to high-tech entrepreneurs, their independence is in the same spirit that pioneered this country. Their skills have driven them to test the ethical boundaries of ownership, security, privacy and censorship.

News coverage is mired with the election, terrorists and wars. Trendy court cases and publicity-driven appearances cause judicial gridlock. All of which dominate prime-time news. In the meantime, domestic conversations about how technology is forging ahead of our laws are brimming under the public’s radar in heated, constitutional debates.

This film aims to cover the debates and culture clambering on the cutting edge of emerging technologies.

    HACK THE PLANET!!!

  •

hackers were believe it or not, the actual designers of the internet
they were the students of the colleges that were drafted by the goverment to design and test the internet
while some say it was a college idea all along
any ways point is hackers were given a bad name by the misfits and they actually quite smart honest , trust worthy and dependable people
which is just not opinon but a fact... hackers evolved from data entry\mantainer\ operator people to coders and security people
to get deeper there are 3 social "classes" of hackers
Grey ,White and Black "Hat" hackers
Grey Hats are the kind that keep to themselves, don't brag about their achievements and are only out there to learn, experiment and question
then then there's the black hat hacker, the evil steroype you hear so much about
they hack mainly because it gives them a sense of enjoyment... while wrtiing malicious code gives them amusement and statisfaction
they boast about breaking into credit card databases or other sites or perhaps how many computers the crashed and or turned into zombie servant computers
they do this for approval from their peers and the right to say "hey! i created this trojan expoliting this vulnerabity or security hole" and i can do this that or so and so
    anyone remember melissa?
it infected thousands of computers via email attachments
while he has gotten lots of praise, which he desired it was short lived he was soon arrested
    that's the sterotype
formulate idea, code, release , boast ,soak it in then be totally stupid and boast and release all the info to a undercover agent
they're smart but just short minded
