Sheikh Muhammad al-Habadan said showing both eyes encouraged women to use eye make-up to look seductive.
The question of how much of her face a woman should cover is a controversial topic in many Muslim societies.
The niqab is more common in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf, but women in much of the Muslim Middle East wear a headscarf which covers only their hair.
Sheikh Habadan, an ultra-conservative cleric who is said to have wide influence among religious Saudis, was answering questions on the Muslim satellite channel al-Majd.

Nowhere in the Koran or the Hadith does it say that women should cover their faces - it does say that they should cover their breasts and their hair.
-
oh my god. i'm so sick of religions using women as the scape goat for mens sins. Niquabs, Burkas, hajib, all of it is bullshit to control and alienate women from society.

Isn't it great who we do business with!
Makes you feel all warm and cozy inside.

How would one exposed eye be less seductive than two?
Does this have anything to do with 'winking'?
-
Why don't they just have them all mummified. That seems to be the direction these clerics are leaning.

Wouldn't cyclops women eventually become the "in" style of beauty?

The oppression of women grows daily worldwide.
People who use religion to deny women equal rights go against the core principle of human rights for all at the center of all spiritual traditions.
Human rights and respect for every one, no exceptions.
-
This is unbelievable! How is this supposed to stop a human being's natural desire again?
-
What happens when the one eye that's showing is sexy? Is it the guys fault for having the dirty thought or should these women start shopping for blindfolds?
-
It is very simply a form of control. Just like the not allowing women to talk, making them walk 2 steps behind the man or not allowing them to drive. I have even seen women who could not sit in the front of the car. Where in the Koran is that stated?
I have a story. When I was in Iraq, there was a woman who was raped by her Uncle when she was 14. She was married off in an arranged marriage around 18. When her new, older husband found out that she was not a virgin, he beat her. When her child was born, she was not even allowed to hold the baby to nurse her. Her husband or mother-in-law would hold the baby girl. To make a long story short, she was taken into a shelter in Baghdad, given a new identity and trained to work and support herself and her child. (I think this story was featured in Time, if someone knows, could you let me know so I can look it up?)
It's wrong that this is still happening. I hate it that the Holy Books (the Bible, the Koran, etc) are being construed in order to maintain control over a group of people.
When will it change? Probably never. It is things like that that make me realize how I am lucky to be a woman in the United States right now. Things could be a hell of a lot worse.

Keep in mind this is an ULTRA conservative wack-job just like some of the ultra conservative wack-jobs we have in the americans south.
Both are equally stupid and both do not represent the masses.
And incidentally, we would all be a lot better off if both would just drop dead.
-
Yeah keep hiding your face from god.
Great idea. What are you hiding from!
Can't you see theres veils between us!-

It may be cozy, but women should have a right upon what they wear, but of course, that is their country, and they will have to resolve it on their own..

religion leaves humans mentally "blind", so it's no wonder that it makes them physically "half blind"
religion is cancer.

Some women honestly do not mind wearing a veil or burka because it is what they have always known and it's the culture. I know that is hard for some American's to imagine but we see it differently.
I would like to know from someone who this might actually affect, what they think about it?

Cool thing about it is that you don't have to go and comb your hair or wash your face before going to the market with your brother, son, father, uncle, or husband... but the bummer is THEY CAN'T SEE!
besides... that really does suck as far as removing a woman's "identification" even more. They will be floating blobs.
No wonder they have no rights in some of those countries, they don't even get to have "faces".

this reduction of visibility implies a repressed , secret desire to just behead women outright .
-
why dont they just do away with woman entirely?
