Crusader against Obama racism

Richard Trumka is the Secretary Treasurer of AFL-CIO and he has courage.

I say to all of my friends, of all skin colors, you must not tolerate racism in your space. If you want things to change, you must change. You must dig deep for the courage to say how you feel. When you hear a racist comment, or a racist fear, ask for specifics, you must speak your truth. If you do not fear a person because of their color then say that. Why should a racist comment be given more room to breathe and to grow than one that confronts it down?

I know it can be scary, but there are others like you, like us, on the front lines here. And your voice is needed. Listen to Richard Trumka and know that you are not alone in the journey to creating a better America.

    Racism goes both ways.

I do not think it was fair for Obama to say his, "...by the way he's (0bama) black."

First Obama injected race into the campaign, and second he put words into McCain's mouth that McCain did not say.

McCain called Obama by telling him not to play the race card.

I have no idea what the person above me is trying to say, so I can't comment on it.

    HOWEVER...

This video is great! What a good guy. It sure wasn't easy for him to get up and make that speech, and address racism head-on. That's pretty impressive. Good for him.

I agree. There are many who don't support Barack simply because he is black.

This election has also shown that while being overtly racist towards African-Americans may be no-no, it's not taboo to hate Muslims or Arabs.

Look at the woman Richard Trumka spoke of. She tried to hide her bigotry against blacks by making bigoted statements against other groups of people.

It's time we start calling bullshit on people who make the lapel pin argument and expose them for what they really are - bigots.

So that includes racists who support Obama as well?

Obama is by far the best candidate. He is more intelligent and more presidential. McCain/Palin is a ticket to hell.

WHAT IS RACISM? WHO ARE HUMANS? I thnik humans are ordinary people, rich or poor who have loved ones, have success and failures in the daily lives, suffer from ilness, and live and die just like anyone else. Racism to me is not color, but people who blunder through life, blaming other people for their own shortcomings because they are different. Simply looking for a scapegoat to excuse their own insecurity. This is still America. No matter what color or gender you are, you have choices! You can choose to work hard and acheive your goals or you can lay on your lazy butt and live on welfare and blame it on Racism because you know you are a failure. It doesn't matter what race you are! Anyone who judges a person by race or gender is sadly lacking in character themselves.

Man shot three times in street by racist gunman - for wearing Barack Obama T-shirt

    By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 6:01 PM on 07th October 2008

A man told today how he was shot three times in a London street for wearing a Barack Obama T-shirt.
Dube Egwuatu was buying a mobile telephone top-up card in an off-licence when the gunman confronted him and glared at the top, which carries an image of the Democrat US presidential candidate underneath the legend 'Believe'.
The man then launched into a tirade of racist slurs, shouting 'I f***ing hate n*****s' and urging 36-year-old Mr Egwuatu to leave the shop with him.
Respect: Dube Egwuatu wearing the Obama T-shirt that provoked a racist attack
The man then left the shop but when Mr Egwuatu re-emerged, the attacker was waiting for him in broad daylight with a threatening-looking dog and holding a gun behind his back.
Realising what had sparked the increasingly violent assault, the terrified Mr Egwuatu zipped up his jacket to cover the image of Mr Obama and walked to his car.
But the shaven-headed man, who was white, followed Mr Egwuatu and after pulling open the passenger door pointed the gun at him.
After pleading with the man to leave him alone, the married former street warden put the keys in the ignition and turned the engine on.
The attacker then fired the gas-powered ball-bearing pistol three times, hitting the civil servant in the face, hand and shoulder.
Fearing for his life and bleeding heavily, Mr Egwuatu raced away in his car and found somewhere safe to call for help.
He was taken to hospital and later sent to have a piece of metal removed from his jaw.
Mr Egwuatu, a data analyst with Croydon Council, said: 'The venom in his voice was frightening.
'He was telling me that he was going to kill me.
'I couldn't believe it was happening - and just because I was wearing an Obama T-shirt. He was trying to make me walk somewhere quieter, saying: 'I've got something for you,' and 'I'm going to kill you.'
He added: 'Obama inspires me, his educational track record alone is quite unbelievable - that is why I was wearing the T-shirt.
'I did not think for one minute it could stir up such powerful feelings of hatred and I never said a word to him.'
Mr Egwuatu's wife, Angela, 35, said neither of them had experienced anything like it during their childhood in Nigeria.
Mrs Egwuatu, an immigration officer, said: 'At first my feelings were pure horror and now it is pure anger.
'If he had been carrying a real gun I would have been a widow. It is just ridiculous.
'I don't know how a person's mentality works. Why would a T-shirt get you to the point where you want to shoot someone.'
To the untrained eye, ball-bearing guns like the one used in the attack look every bit like a real firearm.
The potentially lethal weapons are often converted by criminals to fire real bullets, and can be bought easily in high-street shops and on websites.
The Met said it was investigating the incident, which took place in South Norwood, and that police searched a nearby house which the attacker was seen going into.
    No one has been arrested.

No the really scary thing to me is the fact that I have close friends and yes even some family members that all of a sudden I am realizing are narrow minded racist and still buying into Obama being muslim and a terrorist and I have even heard him called the anti-christ......and these are what I would have called educated people. I can't help but feel ashamed by the fact I never saw this part of them.

for months now I have read posts from hundreds or maybe even thousands of you all saying how wrong your judgement has been on people you have lived with for years and in some cases decades because they are what you all see as racists. Im not doubting any of you. im sure they are racists...in your eyes. so how can any of you who say that your judgement has been that off be so sure your vote for barry as president is so right? maybe its just another really bad case of judgement on all y alls part. lets be real here most everyone of you has already said what a bad judge of people you all are. i suspect you are all going to make another very bad judgement call when you go into the voting booth on nov 4th. i just hope this very bad case of judgement doesnt ruin our country. vote for ron paul on nov 4th

Our minds develop as we grow older throughout our entire lives and we learn to think for ourselves. At age 2 we do not know a hot pot will burn., only that Mommy says don't touch. By the age of 10 we know that hot pots burn but also have learned there is something good inside that pot. We just have to be careful getting it out. Learning is an everyday occurence for anyone no matter what age we are and we have to choose and make our own choices versus influential teaching by our parents, schoolteachers or peers. Oftentimes we find by examining the facts that our population has developed in such a way that the teachings of our youth are not always appropriate for the world we live in now. It is not bad judment from earlier years that matter, the choices we make today or tomorrow or the next day are what will affect our future generations.

Yes, we live in America, and we should pride ourselves on choosing the candidate that's best for our country regardless of race, and it's time to move beyond treating each other differently because of skin color.

Yes, I can do it. I am an African-American woman, I go to a predominantly white church and I love my church and the people there. But even there, I feel like I can't say how I feel. I think Americans have a lot of acknowledging to do. The White Americans who do it MUST acknowledge their racism to heal. As a people they MUST acknowledge the racism both in the past and in the present. What was done in the past and even now has caused an incredible amount of pain in communities of color. Pains that we are STILL healing from.... but the most painful thing is that not a lot of whites are willing to admit it or even talk about it.

Now this man right here. I respect him.

As for Black Americans, many of them have internalized the racism given to them and either gave it back or just carried it around. But the problem was never with Black Americans or Latin Americans or Asian Americans, the PROBLEM was in how these Americans were treated by their fellow Americans. Please let's be honest people. For the love of GOD, let's be honest. I'm tired of pretending. I'm tired of having to change how I speak when I am around a white person. Tired, tired, tired. When I have tried to speak on the issue, I was often met with defensiveness. I am not saying people of color are not racist too...they can be...but I am saying on the whole, people of color encountered racism WHEN they got here...and the majority of it came from different white communities.. Many people of color live with constant day-in-and day-out reality of racism. Why should we have to live with this anymore???? I think that Americans need to be able to admit all this. OR ELSE HOW WILL WE HEAL AS A NATION??????

We are seeing the racism come out in numbers in this election, because even after MLK...it was still lying inside us...in our minds.

RACISM is still here....LET'S CHANGE IT.

this whole blame game has gone on long enough. there is alot of hatred towards black americans. it STARTED there.
there has now developed a type of reverse racism that is now perpetuating a terrible cycle.we must all learn tollerance and love.
    this video gives me hope...

talking to a bible toting nut case one day, he told me that when Noah cast his son out for his crime the black race was born, and it must suffer for Ham's crime. Ham's crime was that his covered up his fathers nakedness, some scholars claim his father was masturbating and got caught. Either way it was Noah who was doing the shameful act I said so why is Ham and black people, in this case being blamed. Should it not been Noah and the white race that is the guilty party, going with his way of thinking. I was told Noah was doing nothing wrong, the body is God's creation, it was Ham's embarrassment that cause the shame. To me it made as much sense as seeing someone differently because of the color of their skin.

we need to stand up like Rosa Parks did that day she sat down and just say I am tired of this and not going to let you get away with it anymore.
