With prices soaring due to the failing economy in West Oakland and the rest of the nation, alternative methods of securing food in an urban environment are now more crucial than ever. This podcast will provide answers to West Oakland residents in this situation, as well as attempt to raise awareness in everyone else, both goals accomplished through the food program of the non-profit organization: City Slicker Farms.

You go City Slickers.I think ya`ll have a great idea.Growing our own vegtables allows us to control the quality of what we eat,and knowing that not everyone has the space needed for gardening, bringing it to the streets, then getting the people involved is a great concept! Grow On!!!

Beautiful Garden, Beautiful neighbohood. I feel most people need to get back to growing their own food sources and trading goods with neighbors as well. It is a much healthier way to survive than buying precooked meals @ grocerie stores and constantly relying on fast food options!

I was happy to see this film on Current. We grow organic vegetables in a big garden box in our courtyard. There is something amazing about eating food you've grown. I'd love to see this beautiful documentary on TV; well shot, well edited, great interviews. Above all we wish contiued success to city slicker farms! Tak a look at our diy video "School of thinking"

GREAT story, I was there once because my son lives close to San Fran. This is true American ingenuity and I hope this spreads all over the USA. This kind of thing is what makes America great and negates all the reasons for self hate we have here. Be healthy and happy...we CAN learn to live with less and be good citizens!!!

Great Story. For those who found this video of great interest you might also watch the
    "The People's Grocery"
to further educate themselves on such urban farming concepts.

In West Oakland, California, where liquor stores have replaced markets, People’s Grocery is creating a healthy alternative, offering access to organic produce. Through urban gardens and local farms, People's Grocery supports a culture based on connection to the land, sustainable agricultural practices, and regenerating community.

Wonderful these programs are the foundation of narrowing the gap. Education, good health, teaching skills, so that people will never go hungry because they know how to grow their own food with out pesticides. nice!
