Tao #27 ~ Compassion
Ф

experienced travelers leave no trace
as they move along the way
seasoned speakers do not lose face
when the words seem to slip away
good accountants don't need computers
to help them find the balance
a good door needs no latch
to remain closed
a good bond
does not need a rope

Wise ones lift the people up
and don't let people down
wise ones do not turn their backs
upon the pain that is around

wise ones are filled with love
not needing gloves
to dive into the work of kindness
they are unafraid of age or time

teaching those who need to learn
giving even the slow a turn
helping them up the ladder
to the heart of the matter

value your teachers,
value your students
those who do not value wisdom
live in delusion

perceive
the mystery

Compassion. This is something that our country is running out of. I see it all around me.

So, it's hard to pick just one part of that...
so for me, if only one piece...

I agree - compassion is definitely what our country is currently lacking. McCain-Palin would do well to read this chapter of the Tao Te Ching and learn to be compassionate for less fortunate Americans, like those without healthcare or enough food for their families.

But then again, with their rampant xenophobia, they'd probably be afraid to learn about Taoism for fear of "associating with terrorists..."
