Japan's issues aren't isolated ... Many European nations, especially & old; countries like Italy, are experiencing the same population contraction. And even though Japan is unique in its problems and solutions, there's a sense that it simply reflects a future much of the rest of the developed world will soon see.

One thing I dislike about Japan and I do love the culture is that it is indeed so insular and is often labeled as fairly homogenous in many ways it is the exact opposite of Americans culture. However it isn't reflected in thier media in anime/manga. Everything is escapism everything is bright and colorful and of every cultural makeup. In a recent study only .5 percent of manga and anime featuring japanese charachters have apropriate eye color or hair color. To hear a Japanese person say that we beleive all living beings have a soul in this trailer speaking about equity for robots when the problem is strict immigration laws gives me a mixed reaction I don't know whether to laugh or to cry because Japan is a place I would love to live.
