The Australian government now manages many Northern Territory Aborigine settlements; a controversial move which had the purpose of curbing child abuse and alcoholism. But tribal leaders believe these attempts have meant that more and more Aborigines are now sniffing petrol.
Alcohol has been banned in many areas but petrol abuse has many severe side effects including heart disease and depression.
Aboriginal children as young as five have developed an addiction.
