That's Some Expensive Lipstick!!!!

Palin's high-paid traveling make-up artist is Amy Strozzi, who was nominated for an Emmy Award for her work as head of makeup on "So You Think You Can Dance." Strozzi was paid $13,200 by the McCain-Palin campaign last month alone, according to the campaign's latest financial disclosure report filed this week.

Not wearing make-up doesn't work well on TV, but $13,200!?

The Great Debate: Kennedy, Nixon, and Television in the 1960 Race for the Presidency

Excerpt:

The debates made Kennedy look like a winner. His practice of looking at the camera when answering the questions -- and not at the journalists who asked them, as Nixon did -- made viewers see him as someone who was talking directly to them and who gave them straight answers. Kennedy's performance showed not only that he was a knowledgeable and credible elected official, but also that he just plain looked better. The often repeated story -- which is in fact true -- is that polls taken after the first debate showed that most people who listened to it on the radio felt that Nixon had won, while most who watched it on television declared Kennedy the victor. A polished public speaker, Kennedy appeared young, athletic, handsome, and poised. Nixon, wearing a gray suit that blended with the television backdrop, pale and thin after a recent hospitalization for the flu, sporting a five-o-clock shadow, and refusing to wear make-up, appeared tired, pallid, and sweaty. He freshened up his appearance for the next three debates, but years later he remembered the lesson well. When he opened his next presidential bid in 1968, it's no wonder he declared himself "tanned, rested, and ready."

Get a grip---what has Obama spent on clothing and all sorts of feel good and look good extras? We hear nothing of that. Probably, liberal women are jealous of Palin, who, after five kids and in middle age, still looks fantastic. She is smart, has advanced (how many other women are in the position she is in?), and is morally grounded and disciplined. Her husband is handsome, her family is good looking and a real family. Further, liberal men are running scared of her, intimidated.

Whether Obama Hussein or McCain/Palin win the election, I salute her for her bravery, her intelligence, her strong faith, her ability to stand while attacked on every side on the most trivial and ridiculous of matters, her sheer guts! The mother of five, successful in business, a loving wife, wow, are we getting close to the Proverbs 31 woman or what?

I agree that image is important but $150.000 in clothes and over $13,000 in make up is going a little overboard when it comes to public finance. After all, McCain is using the tax-payers contributions to pay for his campaign. Some would say "Bravo" to his stand on election reform but along with that comes fiscal responsibility and public scrutiny. We paid for those clothes, not private donors. In a time of economic crises, shopping at Neiman Marcus and Saks was not a smart move. Does "mainstream" America shop there? If you want to run a campaign representing and exploiting mainstream America with figures like Joe the Plumber, you need to shop wisely.

The Obamas and Bidens have paid for any new clothes and expenses of that sort out of their own pocket. That was simply how they chose to run their campaign.
