Death and Defiance at Cintas Industrial Laundry

goldenways
Cintas workers speak out: on March 6, 2007 in Tulsa Oklahoma, laundry worker Eleazar Torres Gomez was killed at work.

Imagine a washing machine 10' high, laundering 700 lbs of clothes. That machine leads to a dryer, just as large. Torres-Gomez was dragged off a conveyor belt and into one such 300-degree industrial dryer. The equipment had previously been found to be unsafe.

One year after his death Cintas employees launched an effort to force the company to improve its workplace safety record. Have the company’s policies changed? UNITE HERE’s Safety Director Eric Frumin and Communications Director Matt Painter provide an update.
