As reported by The Grady County Express Star, Christopher has filed a $25,000 claim against Grady County, The State of Oklahoma and Grady County Deputy Sean Knight for the wrongful shooting of her dog.
The claim states that Knight was on duty serving tax warrants when he pulled onto Christopher's property to ask for directions. When he got out of his vehicle, the dog reportedly approached Knight, who pulled his service weapon and shot the dog in the head.
The claim also says Knight "grossly over reacted and did not attempt to get back in his car or utilize any less than lethal methods" and that statements provided to Brunson's office "contain several glaring discrepancies compared to the security video of the shooting. It is clear the Grady County Sheriff's office is attempting to justify the shooting of the dog."
In the news clip, Christopher claims the Sheriff's department said the dog was trying to attack the deputy. When Christopher told the Sheriff's department that her home security video system captured the incident, the Sheriff's department changed their story, offered her money to keep quiet, and told her not to show the video to anybody.

Well, looking at the video, there may be some hint that he feared for his life and as a cop, instinctively shot the dog. Then again, there is a loss of life.
What I want to know is, where was that dog kept? O_o Are owners allowed to let their dog run around like that?
Also, the title is VERY misleading.
-
The dog looked more playful and excited to see a visitor than threatening....to me anyway. It wasn't an attack dog and appeared to be nothing more than a family pet.

This man shot a dog that was just running towards him. When you show such fear, the dog became more anxious. usually someone would just get in the car. This guy found it more convenient to kill someones pet on their property. And I don't want policemen coming to my house asking directions. Ever heard of a GPS??? PRIVATE property!!!
-
Just a Commie Practicing to do the rest of in.
-
A deadly weapon of convenience used with tragic consequences is what I see.
-
What an idiot! He should have just gotten in his car. He should be punished!

the dog is clearly wanting to play, look at its ears, its tail, it's non-lowered non aggressive stance, it also would have jumped a good 5 feet before he had his gun out if it's intentions were to attack. This guy has a stun gun, mace, boots, a fucking mag-lite! The service pistol was a complete abuse of power! Totally trying to play "my dick is bigger than yours, rookie" with the ride along. This man needs to pay this woman, do some time, and lose his badge and his gun because he isn't responsible enough to be on the streets, armed and "protecting". How is this guy going to act around people running at him? This man needs the hard dick of justice slowly slid into his ass. sorry but this is just unnerving.

All the cops in our area have Obama signs in their yards. Strikes fear in your heart.

...I am very glad to see the word murder associated with another animal....this religious based Mans dominion over the Earth has gone quite far enough.....and humans are not any different than anything else....just a little less intelligent...and a lot more inbred...Golden Ruler...Will.......

How about that, pigs shooting dogs.
-
Cop did look scared but to shoot the dog was extreme. He deserves punishment for ill judgment.
-
Get a rope!
-

OMG that poor dog. And any dog greeting someone will run over. If it was a PitBull they would have said he had provocation to do this but this poor dog just ran over to greet the officer as my teacup poodle would. Size shouldnt matter.

First, people, learn grammar. "It's" = it is, not "belonging to it."
Anyway: the dog was clearly charging at the cop; I can't clearly tell if the dog was being playful or aggressive and don't believe anyone else can; the dog was left unrestrained by its owner; the owner is responsible for her dog getting shot. End of story. The physical safety of any police officer is more important than the life of any dog.

Yet another reason to install surveillance cameras at your personal residence. No longer is it her word against his.
-
Come on!! Ever heard of excessive force?
This is crazy--he had more then enough time to get back into his car. Instead he decided to shot the dog?!? -
wonder what would have happened if a child had run at him? would that be a life threatning inncedent? some people are just idiots.

Poor dog. Judging by the video I think the dog wanted to play. I'm pretty sure the cop is going to win this case though. Cops are in constant fear for their life and honestly the dog should have been kept on a leash.
-
If a man can't keep his gun holstered and think before acting, he has no right to be a police officer. If a man can not seek out a humane solution before a violent one, he should not be a police officer.
Then again, most of them have power they never earned anyways. If a non-officer did this, there would be no question of guilt.

What the one cop on the planet with out a taser or nightstick?
-
Dogs carry far more life threatening diseases than children -- what a stupid comparison. "Excessive force," again, is a category applied to human/human interactions, not acts of self defense against a dog.
But I suppose there's no point in arguing with someone who doesn't understand the difference between a dog and a human being.

Back in the day shooting a mans dog was only slightly less reprehensible than shooting his horse. As much as I hate excesive violence against humans I cannot tolorate abuse of animals. I have also found that disrespect of the sanctity of the life of animals represents a profound disrespect for human life as well and we should be very careful not to alow that type of person a lisens to carry and use a lethal weapon.
-
That is exactly how our dog greets anyone who pulls in the drive, so excited to see someone. should I worry now?
