Make Voter Disenfranchisement a Crime
In monarchies attempts to overthrow the sovereign were deemed treason punishable by death.
In a democracy the equivalent is attempting to withold the vote and so subvert the democratic process.
Why is it not a crime?
I propose that any person found to be wrongfully attempting to prevent a citizen from exercising their democratic rights be treated as a criminal.
That is arrested, charged and imprisoned for a period of time sufficient to reflect the gravity of the offence - treason.
In law there is an offence of attempting to pervert the course of Justice. This includes attempting to intimidate or persuade witnesses to falsify testimony.
I propose that there is now an urgent need for a companion charge - that of attempting to pervert the course of Democracy.
This would include attempting to intimidate or defraud voters of their right to vote.
The United states of America is the oldest democracy in the world. It must be free of any merest hint of taint.
I propose that criminal investigations be launched immediately into these activities and any politicians, political campaigns, software companies any one else involved.
In these times when the word has been much abused I aver the following in cold reasoning and careful consideration of the facts.
They are traitors.
