Sterling Airlines bankrupt

Sterling Airlines is to file for bankruptcy today, has grounded all its aircraft and has attempted to contact all of its passengers.

“In recent weeks, Sterling’s management, board and main shareholder have tried to keep the airline afloat. Unfortunately this has not been possible and we have therefore decided to file for bankruptcy later today,” says a press release from the company early Wednesday morning.

Passengers stranded
Sterling apologises for the difficult situation that its bankruptcy puts passengers in, and customers who have ordered tickets directly from Sterling’s home page will not be able to have their tickets refunded.

Likewise, return tickets with another airline will have to be paid by passengers themselves.

Some 30,000 to 40,000 passengers are said to be affected by the bankruptcy.

Sale
There have been attempts to sell Sterling for some weeks now. Several days ago the company said it was negotiating with a purchaser, but those negotiations have now stopped.
