Scientists discover single brain cell dedicated to Jennifer Aniston inside woman's head
Fans of the actress, who played socialite Rachel Green in the sitcom, are likely to have at least one brain cell that springs into action each time they see a picture of her, research suggests.
Other brain cells are similarly encoded to store memories of individual celebrities, from actress Halle Berry to former US presidents Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan.
Even Star Wars character Luke Skywalker has a cell of his own.
The Leicester University research, contradicts the popular theory that a large network of cells are involved in processing images of people.
Instead, it appears, our brains streamline the process by devoting individual cells to store memories of specific people or places.
Neuroscientist Rodrigo Quian Quiroga (CORR) made the finding after showing people being treated for epilepsy hundreds of pictures of famous people and of landmarks.
Tiny electrodes implanted as part of their treatment picked up the electrical activity or 'firing' of around 100 brain cells in each person.
Tests showed that one woman had a cell that specifically recognized pictures of Jennifer Aniston.

Sounds like the most stupid research study ever conducted. I wonder if women have a Phoebe an Monica cell as well...?
-
While the headline is rather amusing and silly, this is actually quite fascinating when you think about the way the human brain works.
Imagine all of the things you might have a brain cell for.

haha, trust the Daily Mail for reporting worthwhile scientific studies. Oh dear.. mind you, the research itself actually look potentially interesting in terms of how we store information about individuals, but the focus on Aniston? wtf??

Ha...interesting. The brain cells do so much.

i refer you you penn & teller for my opinion on this subject.
"BULLSH*T!"
memories are made my synaptic firing order, not from a single cell being too close to your eye when you were watching TV.

This could be interesting information if they didn't package it in a lame little Jennifer Aniston fan club bottle. It makes it sound cheesy and fake.

They really could have just stopped right there...

Please tell me this research wasn't funded with our tax dollars!! Senators have tried sneaking into bills, dumber ones then this, & gotten the money.

Biggest ego trip even for Jennifer Aniston!
I think studies like this are really interesting, i just wish it could be reported in a way where they didn't have to use stars of one of the biggest sitcoms to promote it... truth is most people wouldn't be interested otherwise. -
Who are these scientists?! And whose idea was it to conduct that research? I bet it didn't go down too well with the Uni...
"Yes, we'll be needing a very large amount of money to look into the Jennifer Aniston brain cell..."
-
They are giving scientists a bad name.

When I was a teenager, I used to have a whole part of my brain dedicated to Jennifer Aniston. Now, I dont really care. I guess my brain just recycled it an transformed it to Anne Hathaway cells.
-
I dunno why, but that made me think of a line from a Star Trek episode called Spok's Brain:
"Brain and brain! WHAT is BRAIN!?"
-
I'm glad I don't have a jennifer aniston brain cell. I wonder what they'll call these cells.
-
i don't think i have the Jennifer Aniston cell, but the one for Halle Berry definitely shot off when her name was mentioned.

Scientists? Really??? Someone needs to do a little research on how the brain makes connections, memories, and stores information. The are oversimplifying a very complex problem using very basic research techniques.
But they definatley got their silly little project funded for next year...
And she is definately cute, too!
