Kevin Smith film banned in Utah theater

The company's standards seem a little odd considering that the chain had no problems screening ultra-violent fare like "Saw V," which features beheadings and explicit self-mutilation. When asked why Megaplex Theaters did not object to the gory horror sequel, Gunderson had no comment.
Furthermore, the company's decision might make sense if "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" were in fact pornographic. Instead, Kevin Smith's surprisingly tame and sentimental movie has a few flashes of nudity, a handful of love scenes played mostly for laughs, and a whole lot of foul language. In fact, the film's raunchiness level is comparable to that of "The 40-Year-Old Virgin", "Knocked Up" and "Sex Drive," all of which screened at Megaplex theaters.
I think the point about Saw V being allowed to play while this is banned is a perfect example of the bizarre, contradictory, and ass-backwards attitude the movie industry, the MPAA, and the discriminating parent has concerning inappropriate content. To say that it's ok/more-profitable to show Saw V, an extremely violent and gratuitous movie (not saying it's bad, just that it's more obviously inappropriate for certain audiences), and say that it's bad to show a comedic film with a very silly take on a traditionally explicit film genre, by no standards that I'm aware of, makes any sense whatsoever.

There is no frenzy here. A simple decision was made by a man that didn't want the word "porno" on the front of his movie theatre. Yes, he is a leader in the sense that he is willing to make a decision based on what he believes is right. Moral character is a quality i would want anyone who might lead me to have.. The media are the ones who had this "frenzy" with Mr. Miller over a decision he made. With your liberal education you should be able to see his side of this.
Ive never heard a positive connotation associated with the word porno.
This move by Mr. Miller should be seen as a statement. Its time we look at where we are headed and what our values are. The man owns 3 movie theaters. There are plenty of other places to watch the movie. He wasnt trying to stop anyone from watching the movie. When you use words like "dictate" its clear that you're targeting this as something more than it is. Like he's taking away your rights or something. He knows he can't do that. He was standing up for what he thinks is right.
Everyone believes.
Of course any country can strive for a leader with morals. We just chose not to.
Rhiannon, this isnt meant in any way to offend you or what you believe is right. I'm sorry if it comes off like that.

Nyfan, any country can strive to have a leader that has ethics and will make the right decision; this doesn't include someone who will dictate what media people can or cannot have access to.
And why should there be criticism about a film that has 'porno' in the title? A single word that may be interpreted by some to have negative connotations is grounds for censorship now? From that line of thinking the word pornography, and any derivative thereof, should be eradicated from the public psyche, because apparently the mere mention of it can send people into a frenzy of moral decay. - 1 year ago

Where was the criticism when someone in hollywood put the phrase "make a porno" in a movie title? We encourage ethics and look for new leaders in this country who will make the right decision then we bash Men that have morals. Oh and inventmagic that "one person" happens to own the movie theatre. He can do whatever he wants. Larry Miller A jackass? You really dont know what youre talking about. He is the kind of leader america needs. Of course he judged the title. The title in of itself could send garbage into anyones mind.

You must also be a jackass. The fact remains he is trying to force his moral values onto people that choose to visit his theater. They should have the choice to make their own judgment and not have it made for them. yes they can see it somewhere else, and it is within every right of jackass miller to refuse to show the film, and its withing my right to call him a jackass for making a misinformed decision. before you comment next time try to actually understand what you are commenting about. jackass

I used to live in salt lake, crap like this happens all the time. One person makes a judgment about a specific thing and tries to force that judgment on everyone else with their status in the SLC community. he probably never even watched the movie instead he made an incorrect and bias judgment of the title. He has been a jackass for a longtime, I don't expect it will change anytime soon.
