Project Row House’s founder Rick Lowe, demonstrates how art and the community that creates that art can revitalize even the most depressed of inner-city neighborhoods, for the mutual good of existing and future residents. The mission of Project Row Houses (PRH) is to create community through the celebration of art and African American history and culture. Located in Houston, Texas’ historic Third Ward, PRH has established programs that encompass arts and culture, neighborhood revitalization, low-income housing, education, historic preservation, and community service. In it's fifteenth year, PRH is an example of Social Sculpture in practice.

Lowe was the year 2000 recipient of the American Institute of Architecture Keystone Award and in 2002 he was the Heinz Award recipient in the arts and humanities. He was a Loeb Fellow at Harvard University from September 2001-June 2002, and in 2006 received the Brandywine Lifetime Achievement Award. Rick Lowe practices art-as-social-action and has redefined the role of art and artists in society.

    • What a creative and unique way to bring the art culture to the inner-city! Not only bring it but also involve the community itself in the creation. Rick Lowe is more than an artist...his contibution to social services in Houston is huge!
