California voters have passed a constitutional amendment outlawing same-sex marriage, AP reported Wednesday. The passage of this amendment would overturn a court ruling that gave gay couples the right to wed just months ago.
The passage of Proposition 8 represents a crushing political defeat for gay-rights activists, who had hoped public opinion on the contentious issue had shifted enough to help them defeat the measure.
It also represents a personal loss for the thousands of couples from California and others states who got married in the brief window when they could. Legal experts said courts will have to resolve whether their unions still are valid.
California joins Arizona and Florida, where voters also approved amendments banning gay marriage. Gay-rights forces also suffered a loss in Arkansas, where voters approved a measure banning unmarried couples from serving as adoptive or foster parents. Supporters made clear that gays and lesbians were their main target.

Really, would we call it having "gay marriage forced" on you. I was unaware that the courts were making YOU marry someone of the same of the same sex. Oh wait, that's right they're not.
As for gay people OBVIOUSLY not subscribing to religion, that's a total fallacy. - 1 year ago

This just proves the country isn't as liberal as you would like it to be. We are not ready to have gay marriage forced on us by activist courts

ugh... it's just like one step forward and two steps back for homosexual rights over the course of just a few months. Wake me up in 45 years when we can look back on this and collectively grimace.

Will the state be refunding all the license fees to the couples that have already wed. Not to mention all the money that these couples spent stimulating the economy with ceremonies, honeymoons, parties, etc. This is absolutely ridiculous.

Californians, you've disappointed us. How were gays getting married hurting you? At least you weren't as bad as Arkansas. And at least you voted for Obama. I guess this shows that as a country we're dealing with racism and sexism a little better, but we are still bigoted when it comes to gays.
