30 Year Old Husband Has Sex With 8 Year Old Bride

An eight year old second grader in Yemen took her father to court for forcing her to marry a man 22 years her senior. The couple had been married for two months and the young girl asked for a divorce based on sexual and domestic abuse. This case was settled, but without punishment for the husband or change to Yemeni Islamic laws.

The girl was forced to marry the older man after her father beat her repeatedly. The youngster asked other family members to help her but none would. They told her to go court by herself.

“My father beat me and told me that I must marry this man, and if I did not, I would be raped and no law and no sheikh in this country would help me. I refused but I couldn’t stop the marriage,” said the 8 year old.

Her husband admits to the acts of pedophilia. “Yes I was intimate with her, but I have done nothing wrong, as she is my wife and I have the right and no one can stop me," he said. "But if the judge or other people insist that I divorce her, I will do it, it’s ok.” While the husband is temporarily in jail, neither the father nor the husband has committed a crime under Yemeni law.

    • Pedophiles are evil no matter what religious cloak they invoke to explain away their actions. This girl's courage is remarkable. There must be something that can be done to register one's abhorrence at this type of behavior.

    • At 8 years old, the fact that she knew what was happening to her was wrong and shameful on her father and the pedophile's part, is damn remarkable.

    • This is horrible! What a brave girl, at only 8 years old, to suffer such abuses and still have the courage to stand up for herself, even if she is all alone. How can we help her?

    • We need to reconsider our ridiculous notion that we yet live in a modern society. These sorts of things are still happening all over the world all the while we take our freedom for granted. We should be less concerned about the trivial semantics of our political drama. Injustice constantly plagues the world and if this doesn't become our concern, it will only continue uninhibited.

    • The girl is so brave to have gone to court about this - despite social and family pressures, alone and only at 8 years of age! I really hope she manages to get through this and won't be ostracised by the rest of her family as a result, or at least be able to rebuild her life from there.

    • No comments? This is the depth of humanity. There is probably instinctive laws even in the animal kingdom that do not permit this and Humans are supposed to be superior to animals? These people can kill and call it honor killing and their country and religion can permit this? What about the girl that was raped recently by five men and she was stoned to death as she pleaded for her life, while her suitors went free. Is this a civilized nation and people? Where is the big all powerful, all knowing god when these things happen? Is religion a big farce? I have heard that Islam is a loving peaceful religion, then how can these killings continue in a civilized world or is civility just a concept for the elite few?
