The Guardian's Africa correspondent, Chris McGreal, talks about the state of refugee camps in Kibati, DRC.

This country has suffered so much from war ever since the demise of Mobutu, several million people have been killed during the multi-faceted war(s) that have plagued this country which is incredibly rich in natural resources - this very fact is largely the cause of these never-ending and ever-shifting violent conflicts, with neighbouring countries and local factions and tribes coveting the possession of these natural assets - gold, diamonds, and many others.

This is an ongoing, lengthy tragedy of immense proportions, and, as always, it is the most vulnerable - women, children, and the sick and the elderly - who pay the highest price and suffer the most.
