Obama offers Clinton Secretary of State role

Democratic sources tell CNN that President-elect Barack Obama and Sen. Hillary Clinton had a "serious discussion" Thursday to gauge Clinton's interest in the post of Secretary of State, if she were offered it. Obama reportedly asked Clinton whether she's interested in the post.

I'll believe it when I see it. Obama has done everything possible to destroy Bill Clinton's legacy, why would he cater to them now.

Party loyality is all I can figure, they have nothing to gain. Bill has already made his name, he has nothing to prove, he will be remembered as one of the greatest Presidents this country has ever known. I would have told him to fuck off if I were Bill, you're going to call me a racist and think I'll support you? But they thought Hillary might still have some kind of political future I guess.

I guess that was what they agreed on before she pulled out to hand it to him and then pushed for him to be nominated by acclamation at the convention (?). Either that or he wants to upset the Senate balance? Wouldn't her going there do that? But she's a friend of AIPAC as well, so it won't really matter much for foreign policy anyway.

I was pretty sure that Obama would give her a role doing something. A lot of people like her, and Obama knows that giving her a spot in his cabinet will please the people who are still upset that she didn't get picked to be the vice president.

This is a no brainer. HRC knows foreign policy as well as leaders of countries that now hold a negative view about America. HRC will be able to do what WJC did and that was to talk to these leaders and listen to them. I believe HRC will have the same thoughts as WJC, ""Since we can't kill, jail or occupy all of our enemies... we also have to spend some time and money making more and more partners and fewer enemies,".

My guess is that she'd take the post, since foreign policy experience is the weak spot on her resume, and presumably this would help her get into perfect position for her next presidential run. But other than that, I hope she stays in the senate -- she's an awesome senator.

    H. Clinton is really just a person some people, for no legitimate reason, just loves to hate. If she accepts the position she will do a fine job and place her self back in the running for president in 8 years, if she is not considered to be 'too old'.

If HRC does accept the position of Secretary of State she could not run for President in 2012 or even 2016. It would not be credible to anyone if she stumped saying "This was a lousy Presidency and I can do a better job" when she was a senior member of it. For that reason I doubt she will accept.

On the other hand if she does accept, I think it would be bad for Obama because she would want to do her own thing and not be ordered around by him. Think of the bombshell if he had to sack her!

It would of course go some way to uniting the Democratic Party but that should come secondary to Obamas vision and policies in his first term.

My call will be that she wont accept but if Obama has offered the post then he will have done his duty to her and she will not be able to hold anything against him publicly. That is a very smart move.

I've never cared for Hillary. If she had won the Democratic nomination, I would have voted Nader again (assuming McCain still would have chosen Palin and continued to run as the antithesis of his former self; I liked and supported McCain2000).

All of that aside, if she actually could actually serve some benefit to this country is any such position, then, by all means, employ her services. I mean, I don't see it, but I accept my fallibility. But if it's simply a political maneuver, BOOOOO!

For the record, no one has been offered that position yes. This headline is false, she has only been interviewed, along with Bill Richardson.

This woman HRC will want this position to round out her resume, she doesn't care about America, just wants the presidency. Now I bet she jumps on the job they probably already agreed when she pulled out of the presidential race. She can now spread her brand of socialism around the world and tell everyone how America hates the military, and how we just want to spread the wealth of our great country around the world because everyone is happy when everyone has stuff. Perfect set up for our enemies. This is real bad news for any patriot and anyone in the military. It is also bad news for gun owners because she and Obama can show the world how they disarmed the most gun loving country in the world just to show how pacifist we have become. She can show them that we aren't terrorists like Bush (her opinion not mine). Gawd, she will be singing Com ba ya with all foriegn leaders and they will be laughing all the way to the bank as we give money to third world dictators so they can fund terrorism and we are going to be in deep s**t folks. The Obama/Clinton team doesn't see why we are a free country, they don't see the blood spilled all over the world for our freedoms. They are from a privalged new world, military hating, gun hating socialists who think real heroes are people with big white smiles. The Russians must be celebrating about now. They are probably breaking out the vodka planning the end of capitalism and free society as we know it. Maybe we can survive the next 4 years and people will wise up. Please, people, these two hate American's they want to be world leaders not just American leaders and there are too many rouge countries to try that concept now. Our taxes are gonna rise to 60% or higher to fund the free give-aways to North Korea, China, Iran, and Osama bin Laden if he is still alive. Jane Fonda must be feeling vindicated today for what she did in Viet Nam. It's time to move to Texas. Those of you who thought Bush was treasonous and tore up the constitution, you ain't seen nothing yet. There is not going to be any middle to lower class handouts. These people are the elite rich just like what people think republicans are. These people have never suffered for anything. They've never loved a country so much to be willing to die for her. Obama wants to ban concealed carry laws across the country and the criminals will be freer and much less nervous now. You can almost hear their sighs. This will only create a black market in guns with the crime along with it. Hasn't anyone learned that prohibition does not work.

And I thought Obama was going to embrace change? So far his picks, and his potential picks, have been Clinton administration round 2. Where's the change?

Would she be good at conducting overall direction, coordination, and supervision of interdepartmental activities of the U.S. Government overseas, excepting certain military activities? Yea ...

Would she be good at negotiating with foreign representatives and instructing U.S. embassies or consulates abroad? Yea ...

It is also the natural stepping-stone to the Presidency.

I hope she doesn't get the post though, as I don't think that she would make a good president [and this would be a step to boost her resume for the presidency] ... and I am tired of the Clintons ... glad Obama got the presidency, we need new people to take prominence and point the way forward ...

    Wow, misleading headline!

I knew he talked about it with her, but no offer has been made. He's talked with Bill Richardson as well.

He's got a sit down with McCain coming up too, I guess we're supposed to believe he'll be the secretary of defense?

Is it possible that he offered her the position if she ducked out of the election? Maybe, maybe not.

Although I believe HRC should be part of Obamas' team, I believe Bill Richardson would make a better SoS. HRC would make a better Attorney General. That is my hope.
