It's a 1963 LeMans Tempest, one of only six ever made. The owner had no idea.-

wow, amazing that it was one of the fastest dragsters in the US and no-one seemed to know it (presumably the guy who sold the car to the guy before was also clueless) until it went on eBay - shows how many collectors hang around on there with a spare $200,000, eh?

What a rare find!
Just think about people who were adults or teens back then, they are sure to be excited to have a chance to own a piece of their history, it was nearly priceless!

I think they found $199,999.oo in the glove box.
I heard the other five migrated to mexico...
I also heard that the other 5 were loaded on the space shuttle and were ejected towards the astroid belt and are now headed back to collide with uranus.
Not only ugly but somebody tie a pork chop around it, and please donate it to the japanese, so they'l leave the whales alone for a couple of meals...lol

What a waste of money.. I could understand if it was some iconic design or something.
The owner must be a very lucky guy for this unexpected sale. - 4 years ago

That picture looks pretty sweet. Nice diecast model. Wish I still had my grandpas old Ford. Should've put a "Property of Me" sign on it.

You'd think with only 6 made they wouldn't fall into obsucurity and disrepair. Glad it is getting a new home with someone who can appreciate it.

Could you imagine putting something up for $500 bucks just hoping to off load it and walking away with $225,000.
The fact that he came by it honestly and had absolutely no idea makes it all the more amazing!!

Wow. Whoever bought that really has some rebuilding to do! it would be awesome to see what they looked like in mint condition.
Love the Name too, never heard of these :)
If there's only six ever made, then damn!!!! they don't even make seperate CV joints without the whole axle anymore for my 94!

My uncle has the other five. Only issue is he built them in a special "garage" in his basement and has no way to get them out.

I doubt it, who ever paid 200 grand for it is most likely a factory purist, they won't touch it.

the car is rare because back then I think they tried making it out of different materials hence only six made. they said on out local radio that when that car is restored that it should fetch about $500,000 at auction.
