Remember that asshole who tied a stray dog up in an art gallery and starved it to death?

His name is Guillermo Vargas Habacuc and his "art" is up for an award and he's planning to repeat the crime this year.

The prestigious Visual Arts Biennial of Central America decided that the act of cruelty WAS actually art, so Guillermo Vargas Habacuc has been honored for the Biennial of 2008.

There is a petition above at the link.

I can't read Spanish, but there is indeed an emaciated dog tied to a wall in this art exhibit. That alone is enough for me to be turned off to the artist and his "project", whatever it may be. Life is life, and this is immoral in my opinion.

This is so incredibly sad. That poor, poor, poor, dog. This makes me want to cry.

What a disgusting human being. And what kind of organization would award this non-"art"?

i don't want to think this is real.... i looked it up and there are a lot of sites on the cruelty exhibit.

Although this was wrong, I do understand the point.

It became fashionable to care about this dog because of this show. But, when the dog was running around on the street starving, did anyone bring him food? Did any of these people give two shits before it was cool to do so? And most importantly, did anyone set this dog free?

If I walked into this art gallery and saw a dog like this, I would have pulled out a knife, cut the rope, and walked out with him. The dog was not the man's property because he was not licensed so, aside from damaging the rope, this would be completely legal. Yet, did anyone DO anything? No. People just complained and wrote petitions and scoffed.

I think the point of the exhibit is that if you don't see it, then it isn't happening.... this is happening to far more than just one dog every day ...it's sad because it's not right or wrong or other...it just is a part of our world.

I think this is great. While I don't advocate the killing of animals, I do appreciate the artist highlighting the plight of similar dogs everywhere. I think the public is doing more or less what he wants them to ...

    lol. this guy is awesome.

If he was breaking a law, he would have been arrested. Apparently, this isn't animal cruelty. lol.

WHEN I FIRST HEARD OF THIS "ART" EXHIBIT I WAS DISCUSTED.... IM A PERSON THAT IS VERY STRICT ON ANIMAL RIGHTS. WHAT HABACUC DID WAS HORRIBLE IF INDEED HE DID STARVE THE DOG ( HOWEVER THERE IS A CHANCE THAT THE DOG WAS LET LOOSE AFTER THE EXHIBIT.... BUT SAYING SO WOULD DEFEAT THE PURPOSE OF HIS MSG).
I SUPPORT THIS ART (IF INDEED HE DIDN'T REALLY KILL THE DOG) BECAUSE IT IS A WAY TO GET THE ATTENTION FROM THE PUBLIC. LOOK HOW MUCH ATTENTION IT GOT. MORE THAN BEING DISCUSTED AT THIS EXHIBIT PEOPLE SHOULD BE DISCUSTED IN THEM SELVES. I HAVE BEEN TO OTHER COUNTRIES WHERE I SEE PEOPLE THROWING ROCKS AT SIMILAR STARVING DOGS WHEN THEY GET NEAR THEM OR ARE IN THEIR WAY...I'VE ALSO SEEN IT DONE FOR AMUSEMENT. IN THE U.S WE MAY NOT SEE THIS MUCH.. OR AT ALL.... BUT THINK OF IT THIS WAY...I LIVE IN CHICAGO.... WHEN PEOPLE SEE A STARVING PIDGEON... NO ONE FEEDS IT, IN FACT ITS AGIANS THE LAW IN CERTAIN PLACES...THEY ARE CONSIDEDRED FLYING RATS... SO WATS THE DIFFRENCE!!!

I don't think people even try to divulge further into the background of this art project... I'm even vegan and I have a hard time really saying whether this project is moral unjust.
If this project helped save two dogs on the street by influencing a viewer, than I actually believe this is doing more good.
However, the fact that someone could actually do this without feeling some regret is beyond me.

And if you're really upset about this project, go out and do something to help all the other stray dogs, or do something to help the millions of animals that are suffering every day in factory farms instead of focusing your energy on this one person... at least he's not hiding anything.

I think the fact that we're still talking about it makes the artist's point exactly.

It's a bit sensationalist as well, probably, is his made up story about the dog dying. All for attention, and more likely against the poor treatment of dogs or simply a interesting look at how (terrible) our treatment of animals is every day.

(SEE - GUILLERMO VARGAS HABACUC'S PERSONAL BLOG ON FACEBOOK)

    THE 'ARTIST' GUILLERMO VARGAS HABACUC
WAS NOT TRYING TO PROMOTE AWARENESS OF ANIMAL SUFFERING. IN FACT, THE DOG WAS JUST AN OBJECT, A THING... (NOT A LIVING, FEELING, CREATURE)

ANIMAL CRUELTY/ABUSE IS NOT LIMITED TO BEATING AN ANIMAL TO DEATH.

GUILLERMO VARGAS HABACUC USED THE DOG FOR HIS OWN PERSONAL BENEFIT...NOT TO HELP THE DOG WHO WAS OBVIOUSLY IN NEED... ALREADY SUFFERING.

GUILLERMO VARGAS HABACUC TOOK AWAY ANY CHANCE THAT DOG HAD OF BEING RESCUED BY A COMPASSIONATE SOUL .

GUILLERMO VARGAS HABACUC STOLE ANY CHANCE OF 'LIFE' AWAY FROM THAT POWERLESS CREATURE.

GUILLERMO VARGAS HABACUC IS A DISGRACE... A STAIN OF HUMANKIND.

AS FOR THE ATTENDANTS AT THE ART 'SHOW' WHO DID NOTHING TO HELP THE DOG? ONLY
    MONSTERS WOULD BEHAVE LIKE THAT.

I believe, if it has not been mentioned already, the point was to show how many people care about a single dog when thousands die a day on the street and no one cares.

I read that he fed and gave the dog water and it ran away. I never read that it died. I think the Urban Legend is preceding most of this.

how about we tie him up in an art gallery and oh we starved him to death?

because I'm pretty sure if a human did this to another human being they would be in jail...
