    School should be free, I'm barely making it. Had to drop out for a year to raise funds and now it's embarrassing not to be graduating when I expected to. And sometimes I don't even think I learn because I've spent most of my time working part time jobs. It's a really sick system. And you'd think this would make us Americans tough, but I think it just makes us greedy and angry.

    I am going to be apply to a doctorate program in two years. While those are usually fully funded, with endowment down, they probably won't be able to accept as many students.

    I'm sorry I think you should work while you go to school. Bite the bullet and work, and you'll owe less in the end you'll gain better time management skills. However, I do see the overall point of what she's saying...

    She's is going to be happy in the end that she didn't get that 40k loan. Teachers get paid next to nothing....I have a friend getting her PhD in education and she is still working as a teacher at the same time. It makes no sense for the woman in this pod to work as a waitress or for anyone else not to work while in school.

    This contrasts the major difference between Republicans and Democrats. The Republicans set up the student loan agency to protect the banks by allowing banks to lend money to students at rates the banks wanted to with no risk to the banks. The Federal government would guarantee those loans which eliminated the risk the banks took. The result was easy money for the banks, and the banks were exploiting students who wanted to improve themselves and contribute to society.
    The Democrats, on the other hand, under Obama, want to eliminate the banks and their exploitation of students. The Democrats want to lend the money directly to students and little or no interest, and society as a whole will benefit.
    In summary, Republicans want to exploit students with no risk to the banks; Democrats want to encourage students to get higher education with the long-term benefit going to society as a whole.
    Republicans were for the banks, and the students were victimized.
    Democrats were for helping the students to the benefit of society, and let's cut the greedy banks out of the deal.
