I hope we can get our global "stuff" together before our first formal contact occurs.
-
Maybe they will show up just in time to bail out the auto industry.

Unfortunately like most things SETI is underfunded and is considered a waste of time by the science community. See you don’t actually understand just how much data there is out there in infinity. Even by my words. It is 10000000 --- times worse than looking for a pin in hay stack. "I feel better for getting this one of my chest Thanks". Oh and if you manage to have a conversation with ET, give him or her my respects.

Wow, thats a nice outdated YouTube video. I think I saw the year 2004 on one of the computers right before the 1980's style computer lab. And lets face it, the only strange event that happened in 2004 and in the 80's was Republicans kept getting elected.
-
I wonder if that guy wrote 'WOW!', for World Of Warkraft, lol!
-
This is probably just static of the first signal of TV broadcast that was picked up.
-
sounds cool, but i'd like to hear about what the cia and nsa are trying to keep a lid on.
and i think they pulled the date of 2025 out of their ass.
-
they have to see it to believe it, not hear it to believe it.
Gosh, get it right.
-
Yeah WoW... about to go there myself.

This is talking about the 'Wow signal' which is now 30 years old. The signal hasn't been heard from in a very long time and only lasted a relatively short period. The video seems to be geared toward fund raising, and the idea of them finding a definitive signal by 2025 is purely speculation. SETI has recently stated (August of 2007 iirc) that they plan on searching the same quadrant as the 'Wow signal' again to look for something.
For information on what this actually is:
http://www.bigear.org/Wow30th/wow30th.htm
Not to invalidate SETI, I think the work is important. The problem is that the signal in question is still up in the air and hasn't been studied as seriously as it should have been.
Hopefully they'll find something while continuing the search from the original discovery.

SETI needs your help, if you would like to donate your spare computer time to assist in the search. I run it on two computers that split the time with BOINC Protein folding programs.
-
@daboz... thanks for the links! i'm running Rosetta@home on my pc, for the ACClarke group. i ran SETI for some while, too, back in '02. and i just restarted that one... there are lots of choices... highly recommended!!!

let's change the name from Current.com to
oftentimesnewandsomeoldassshitthrown inthereforflavor.com
what you think??
too specific? -
Sorry, I farted on the other side of the event horizon, 72 time's, but i just couldn't hold my ass any longer, I just didn't know it would travel that far, lol!
-
Sounds like a government project - name it disclosure project and then gag anyone that wants to talk about it.
-
If that signal came from so far away, woulden't the sound have been created a long long time ago?
-
i think ill put that in my file with flying pigs and the missing link and such.

yes, i am amused by the intelligence exhibited by my brain slug. ah ah ah. .<!>
it makes me tell of the spectral anthropomorphic creatures whos thought is as a tapestry and distinctly significant in a creative harmonic context of communication within and about defined groups, species, and elemental flows and interactions.
odd that they would not be witnessed by conformist senses.>WOW! thats real, really. thanks Brain Slug for assisting me, WITH thinking!
