Parents said that their children had been told what colour bra and pants they could wear and that staff at the Kings School in Winchester, were carrying out spot-checks to make sure standards were being complied with.
Stuart Gander's two daughters 15-year-old Chelsea Hay and 13-year-old Kirby Moore were told at a girls' assembly that coloured bras were "offensive".
The 35-year-old foreman from Winchester said: "They were told they had to wear white ones or very light pale bras and they would be spot checked.
"It's just a case of the girls putting out their bra strap and them having a look."
Whatever, the reasoning behind it, the policy has caused much debate and uproar among both students and their parents over what seems to be an unnecessary invasion of their privacy.

That's really appalling, I'd definitely consider that an violation of people's right to privacy. And, way to boost teenager's confidence there.
-
What's next? Cameras in the locker rooms?!
-
How could one possibly concentrate on their studies if the girl sitting next to you has a colored bra on under her blouse? This isn't offensive, it's ridiculous. LOL

Sheesh.
At some point they have to realize they can't control everything.
What's the cut off point for "distractions" or "offensive clothing" in a classroom setting? Is there any? Have we reached the point where ANY declaration of "offense" must be acted upon?
If there is a single male in the class that gets sexually excited at, say, even the hint of breasts on the female students....would those students be rquired to wear head-to-toe burqa's like women have to do in some Middle Eastern countries?
If there is a single teacher in the school who deems the color red "offensive" should that entire color be banned from all clothing?
At some point the correct response to some of these compliants should probably include the phrase "Just fucking deal with it."
"Oh my goodness! These girls are wearing black bras instead of white!"
Correct response: Just fucking deal with it.
-
Really, how did that staff meeting go? "Ok, now tomorrow we are going to have a fire drill at 10. There will be tots in the cafeteria, I know everyone is excited about that. Umm, oh yeah, tomorrow we will also be making all the students strip down to their underwear to make sure they comply with school uniform standards. And later that day we will have an assembly on sexual harrassment."
Wasn't it just a year or so ago, there was a school in the U.S. that was checking and making sure girls weren't wearing thongs to school........damn, I wish I could find that article.
Anyway I don't get what the obsession is with what underwear kids have on. You know they had to have come across atleast one or 2 students who go commando. They must have been awquared.
-
I love it when girls wearing light see-through fabric, like khakis, with black thongs. You can tell who is doing it with a discrete look as they pass by. I'm not the perv for checking them out--which is why they do it-- the prude teachers are just jealous they cant pull it off.
-
Surely this has nothing to do with how well the kids perform at school. Nobody should be able to see what colour pants you're wearing (unless you're Superman) so why should they even consider checking what colour the pupil' pants are. Seems a little twisted to me...
-
What about the school governors? It gets talked about in their meetings before it actually takes place.
-
I'll show you mine if you show me yours
-
How about a no-bra policy? That should solve the problem.

HEY, TEACHERS...

Wow, Britian is nuts. First CCTV cameras everywhere, then this. No wonder British people never laugh...lol.

In the words of Pink Floyd "Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone!"
-
I'm not really a fan of dress codes for school, but this takes dress codes to a new level. The item in question is something that isn't even seen. So what does it matter if the clothing is bright pink or something like that?
-
I don't get it... Its underwear. If this is a private, or public school, underwear should be worn... under the students damn clothes! If a student is wearing a technicolor rainbow bra, who the hell cares as long as it is not visible under student's clothes? Now if the students were wearing extremely lacy and/or controversial lingerie then I might be able to see the concern because it begs the question of why the student is wearing such underwear. But a color bra... that's just goddamn silly.

Surprising to see this is the first report of this. When I was in 8th grade, my earth science teacher walked up behind a friend of mind and literally pulled her pants up by the belt loops because he said the top of her thong was sticking out. it went unpunished.
-
Doesn't worry me, as I don't wear underwear.

Easy solution to this problem. Don't wear any underwear.
-
This is BULLSHIT.
It was things like this that made me want to rebel more as a kid, and I doubt I'm alone. The more you repress kids the more problems you create.
If I was in this school I'd try to stage a huge demonstration of colored underclothing- what are they going to do? Expel all the girls for pink bras?
If I was a parent of a kid in school, I'd be outraged that teachers were looking at my child's underwear. How completely inappropriate! What's more "offensive"- colored bras or teachers looking at them?!?What the fuck is a school doing regulating bras and underwear anyway? I understand a uniform, but that's going way too far! Besides, if it's really a "distraction" like they say, they wouldn't HAVE to spot check! They'd notice a colored bra right away by their own logic!

These consevatives want to make every generation fear sex. They want all these kids to think its bad and evil, wrong and dirty.
I wasn't born in the 60's but we can all learn a thing or two from that generation.
Make Love Not War.
-
That's definitely not the way to go! This will cause more hassle and other kinds of troubles than resolve.
-
I feel a great amount of outrage emanating from this thread at the absurdity of this ruling. I feel that it is absurd as most others have pointed out but I feel that I should offer a slight devil's advocate position.
If the school has a specific uniform/dress code and the parents have agreed that the students should abide by such a code, I feel that it would not be inappropriate for an instructor to reprehend a student IF THE UNDERGARMENT WAS SHOWING.
Asking a student to show their underwear is very impolite, un-PC, and may be sexual harassment. Part of the purpose of dress codes (supposedly) is to help students learn how to dress correctly for employment situations.
If the school has no formal dress code/uniform then they cannot complain about any showing garments.
