Canada's Supreme Court rules that fat people can get 2 seats for the price of 1

As they should appeal. When I was in the states earlier this year I was stuck on a flight next to a rather large woman who really should have been charged for a double seat.

That's so wrong. Can I get an extra free seat if I break my leg and need to prop it up? NO??? So much for equality.

we shouldn't be rewarding people for their unhealthy habits.

So can thin people pay half the price since they aren't really using the whole seat? Or atleast get head phones so they don't have to listen to the fat peoples heavy breathing through the entire trip?

next they'll be making a special section with extra wide seats

First of all, if one is that obese that they need two seats they need to go to the doctor to get help losing weight and not travel for the price of one. It's not fair. They can't be having special requests. Rather they should be paying the consequence for being that obese in the first place.

In no way shape or form should obesity be catered to.

This is not cool - instead of doing things like this the governement should be looking ingto ways to reduce obesity

I applaud the Canadian Supreme Court's decision. Large people are faced with hatred and bigotry on a daily basis. Is fat the new black - or the new gay? Why do people feel free to take cheap shots at the plus sized individual? Why does society tolerate this sort of prejudice and intolerance?

This is ridiculous, Im all for equal treatment for the obese but if you take up 2 seats you should be charged for 2 seats! Plain and simple. Like ashcatash said, if I have an injury and need to take up 2 seats they would charge me for 2!

Ive been on flights before with morbidly obese people taking up over half my seat with their body...I shouldve only been charged half price!

unimatrix, why do you call them "large" or "plus-sized" if it's so acceptable to be obese? why all the euphemisms?

i think fat people deserve as much respect and compassion as the next guy, but it IS a problem, not only for themselves, and not only because of the medical cost to society, but also because the clinically obese are like walking SUVs. since when is it acceptable to consume way more resources than everyone else?

When you are out of control with your eating habits, there will be consequences to pay. This is rewarding bad behavior and should be apealed by the normal weight flier. I would love to get two seats so I could be more comfortable too.

Sure it's their problem being obese. Just like it's the fault of narrow minded people who are just stupid. Not all obese people are that way because of their eating habits. However stupid people are allowed to voice uneducated opinions on subjects they have no knowledge of. This explains why the world is in the sad "shape" that it's in.

I don't believe you should have special privileges due to your weight. An honest thyroid problem aside, if you choose to neglect your health, that's your problem not mine.

It's enough that my taxes go to subsidizing your health care [Canada], so I sure as hell don't believe you should get another seat on an already crammed economy flight.

If your big enough to warrant the need for two seats, the cost of flying should be the least of your concerns?

I work in the ER and I see first hand where people who are obese seem to have higher incidence of health related problems.

They tax our medical system and we pay for their lack of self control.

I am disgusted that they are receiving special consideration!

Why not allow them to receive free second helping at restaurants as well because they are not satiated by just one serving? What is the difference?

Special privileges are they just for a select few ? If so don't help a lady who is Pregnant...it's her fault so she get's what she deserves. Or if the person is old and can't get around well....they have had a long fife so move over and let us by. Or you that you are of some other ethnic origin and everybody is out to get you. Or all people who are HIV are gay, that makes alot of sense, just as before stupidity is an equal oppertunity offender.
Yet in that same hospital that is there to promote good health and save lives, you have drug addictied Doctors and Nurses who can't help themselves much less anyone else. And when you talk about food, they give you more carbs than protien as it's much cheaper to serve. Correct me if I am wrong, but don't hospitals charge like 2 Dollars for an asprin????

I dont think we should make the world easier on obese people, i mean they brought this upon themselves right? its like defending the smokers.
But as i see it, this ruling is more for the rest of the people than the large ones, it seems unfair for them to get a free seat but should the rest suffer? in the states they make obese people to BUY the extra seat, maybe in canada they feel that we all should pay for it (cause you know the prices are going up now)

well i don't feel comfortable in those seats either. i should get two for one as well

bear4fig, thats an unfortunate analogy you use, walk a mile in their shoes. a mile in their shoes would involve a lot of wheezing and wobbleing and probably a snack stop.
your obviously deductively challenged. old people deserve to be treated with respect, as age is something that effects us all. the pregnant lady deserves special treatment as she is with child. yes she has, in most cases, made the DECISION to become pregnant, but remember like ages we have all came from a pregnant woman. these things effects us all. we do not all become grotesquely fat at some point in our lives. those that do, a fraction are in these situations because of genuine medical reasons, but the majority are like this because they do not eat properly and do not take regular exercise

im 6'3, should they take out the seat in front of me because i dont feel comfortable? this obese problem should die out anyway, probably a heart atack!
