Evidence of vast frozen water reserves on Mars

Image...
From the article:

"NASA scientists have discovered enormous underground reservoirs of frozen water on Mars, away from its polar caps, in the latest sign that life might be sustainable on the Red planet.
Ground-penetrating radar used by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter reveals numerous huge glaciers up to one half-mile thick buried beneath layers of rock and debris. Researchers said one glacier is three time the size of Los Angeles in area.

"All together, these glaciers almost certainly represent the largest reservoir of water ice on Mars that's not in the polar caps," said John Holt, a geophysicist at the University of Texas at Austin and lead author of a report about the discovery, which appears in the November 21 issue of the journal Science.

"In addition to their scientific value, they could be a source of water to support future exploration of Mars" said Holt.

Scientists on the 12-member research team surmise that the frozen water deposits are remnants of a Martian ice age millions of years ago.

Because water is one of the primary requirements for life, scientists said the frozen reservoirs are an encouraging sign of extra-terrestrial life."

This is fantastic news. Not only does it offer hope of finding evidence of extra-terrestrial life, but it offers greater possibility of manned missions to the planet.

On the down side, this opens up the door for humans to pillage yet another planet so we don't have to alter the way we waste, err, use, our resources...

I'm still skeptical of whether there is water on Mars. I'm especially skeptical due to the lack of certainty they expressed the last few times an article about Mars was posted. Even if there is water on Mars, just remember, water might be necessary for life, but it is not sufficient for it.

In my humble opinion, people should view the Documentary: " What the Fuck do WE know, Anyway???!!! It would open their minds to facts they do not yet know even exist. A Natural Science experiment was performed in which it was proven beyond even the shadow of a doubt 2 facts which should astonish the average person: 1. As an element of Nature water is the most basic element there is because, per se, it IS alive.Meaning Water IS life. In fact it does'nt need anything else to make it alive because it's exactly what makes everything else alive. 2. Water is not only alive, per se, but it is intelligent life that can understand the human psyche
with all the concepts that are universal amongst humans: hope, love, peace etc...The experiment showed that The Water actualy understood these
complex human feelings and responded to them by
displaying its own symetrical geometric patterns as its
response. In Star Trek lore this was like 1st Contact.
Except not with any alien species. In fact, as far from alien as you can get. To quote a line from one of my Sci Fi channel broadcast episodes of Outer Limits,it's
not a software problem we have in understanding that
Truth, it's ironicaly a wetware problem. You realy have to see this Documentary to believe your eyes, and have faith that they're doing bona fide reporting.
But if you open your mind, you will believe it. Because there's lots of evidence you can naturaly reason with with facts you've already directly experienced from your own lives which can substantiate these 2 facts.
Have you ever been severely dehydrated ? Not just thirsty, but direly in need of water ? Older people will feel so old they think they're about to die. Younger people will still feel weak. Water IS our physical life force. Classic Star Trek was allways throwing around the term "life forms" Well, water is heavy, fluid, formless matter which is alive is all. We give it form.
As for the part of the article referring to Mars. Should
be interesting testing out Buckminster Fuller's 1950
design of the Geodesic Dome structure on that planet.
People who are the ultimate pioneers can live in their
own greenhouses. And see first hand the transpiration
of oxygen being expelled from plants which humans can breate with, then witness the effects of their plants
absorbing the human CO2 and growing their food and
medicine, and floral decorations with that CO2. Kind of
gives Ray Bradberry's saga of Martian Chronicles a whole new meaning. Especialy since,by the time that
becomes a practical reality, unless you're wealthy enough to own your own land and fortress here on
Earth, the conditions for the average person will likely be so miserable that they'll want to travel to the 4th
planet to even out the overload, and achieve Balance.
