Addicts prefer drugs to porn

Image...
"Abstinent addicts would rather look at images involving their drug of choice than pornographic images, pictures of babies or other conventionally pleasing imagery, new research has found.

"The pleasant images were more pleasant to them and more arousing than the cocaine images," Dr Rita Goldstein of the Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, New York, the principal investigator on the study, told Reuters Health.

"But still they don't choose those pleasant images more often."

The experiment consisted of 20 cocaine-addicts and 20 controls, who chose a card from one of four decks, each of which contained a preponderance of one type of image: cocaine-related images (showing the drug itself or people using it); pleasant images; unpleasant, aversive images such as mutilated bodies; or neutral images."

Is this new? I remember including this in a paper years ago. Either way, it's interesting.

I wonder if they snorted a line before they went in to take a the test, and if they didn't how would this reflect the outcome?
Imagine if they didn't and they saw a big mound of cocaine sitting on a table.
If you loved coca-cola and had one everyday and you hadn't had one that day then you saw a picture with a years supply you'd probably start thinking you could see your name written coke bottles.
    Interesting.

Seeing the coke probably triggers a memory and mild sensation of being high. When I see different foods in magazines or on tv I can often smell or taste them slightly from memory.

....ummm definition of the term addict, maybe?

  •

    I have to disagree

You can get addicted to anything. Drugs, porn, cough current.com cough, anything.

And despite one being legal and the other not. I think it's more socially acceptable to be openly addicted to drugs than porn.

When a topic involving weed hits current it's always extremely popular. So could the study be correct? Weed or porn?

now, PORN on drugs, that's a different story.
aske someone hopped up (contently) on blow, and they will certainly choose porn over the coke. but there's just a short 20 minute window there. (then coke is the most important).
i swear, all my friends that are HARDCORE porn addicts are coke freeeeks first.
put them both together, and it's a different monster.
perhaps it's the misssion to overcome 'coke dick'.
and women, as i have seen (just my b by-standing opinion) are much the same as their male peers.

I'd hate to be the guy who pulled a card from the aversive images deck, I see enough of that crap on 4chan.

If you look at porn addiction being similar to drug addiction, people would have to go to rehab for porn.

I beg to differ with Albee. just get with a partner that loves to fck. and that cures the porn addiction right away. Drugs are a different deal altogether.

I'm glad that I've lived the life I have and that I have kept my priorities correct - I would always choose the card with the hot girl on girl. You see, it's because I'm so normal.. haha..
