Stocks jumped 300 points as news leaked Friday of the appointment, which Mr. Obama is expected to announce by Monday, along with the rest of his top economic advisers. The market’s rise followed days of steep declines and worsening economic news that spurred the Obama transition offices in Washington and Chicago to expedite announcements about the incoming economic team in hopes of rebuilding confidence in the markets and among the public.

Profile of Geithner from the New York Times...

Also: Bill Richardson will most likely be commerce secretary. (According to Chuck Todd's First Read on MSNBC.com)
My Opinion: I don't know a whole lot about Geithner. However he seems to be considered non-partisan and has good experience. All I ask is that others judge him with a rational thought process(like waiting until he takes office). Not from gut reactions.

Another IMF CFR alumni. Didn't he also work for Henry Kissinger's organization in the eighties? No wonder stocks jumped. He's one of them, not us.

I don't think that we can blame any of the trouble we are in right now on any one person...no matter how much I would like to blame G Dubya for everything. It took a whole lot of them to screw things up as bad as they are, and I have a hard time believing that all those involved are bad guys. Some times it is very hard for a single voice to be heard in the crowd. Hopefully, and I don't know anything about this Geithner guy, but hopefully he was that one voice in the crowd that was screaming STOP while everyone else was busy screwing us all. From the picks that Obama has made so far, I am impressed with his ability to seek out the best. I think Obama has been thinking about all of this since well before November 4th, and I think he has been doing his own internal vetting process for years now. If he can be the leader that I think he is and the leader that he personifies, I think we will be in good shape. It won't be soon and it won't be easy, but it will be.

I hate the lame duck session! But I understand that Obama needs time to get his people in order...January 20th seems so far away!

He should have passed him on.
