Obama has said he’ll move ‘’swiftly and boldly” to revive the US economy - setting a goal of 2.5 million new jobs in two years.
In his most detailed analysis of the economic challenges ahead since winning the Presidential election, Mr Obama said he also aimed to stop a spiral of falling prices.
The President elect is expected to choose Timothy Geithner, president of the New York Federal Reserve Bank, as his Treasury Secretary.
There are also reports that Hillary Clinton, his rival for the Democratic Presidential nomination, has agreed to serve as Secretary of State.
