Sunday Police Service on Guildford Cathedral

A man was shot dead according to BBC and Surrey Police today around 15:00 on Guildford's Holy Spirit Cathedral. Helicopter was seen flying over the scene and that intrigued me looking more into the story. Apparently police is advising people not to cross cathedral grounds although it will be a little bit difficult with the nearby University Campus.

The shooting will surely shock the students, since crime is a rare thing to happen in Guildford, but also because police shooting people dead is a rare thing in the UK in general. Since April 2007 there have only been 5 reported cases.

The area has been sealed off with police forces and news reporters on scene.

Police haven't disclosed yet more information about the shooting or the identity of the man.

    • I have fond memories of living in Guildford, it used to be a very nice town. Then the university expanded massively and the influx of students turned it into a bit of a nightmare .. too many drunk kids filling the streets at the weekend, fighting in the clubs etc

This is highly unusual though, more details please ...
