The human soul: an ancient idea

Image...
A friend recently told me that he had finally, in middle age, found his soul mate. She was a woman he barely knew, but he was willing to give up everything to be in her sphere. With glassy eyes, he described how they were special, destined to find each other, and that in coming together they made each other whole.

It was hard to not laugh at my friend's pronouncement of wandering souls crashing together, because most adults are long past that ephemeral kind of love and way into the hard reality of day-to-day living with someone, no matter the condition of their soul.

But my friend would be heartened by the discovery by archaeologists from the Neubauer Expedition of the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago of a stone slab with an inscription that confirms that people like him have been into the idea of a soul for a very long time.

I have witnessed death up close a number of times and it has a tendency to change you. There is an immediate transformation that takes place within the eyes. You can sense the emotional apprehension moments before the change in the eyes occur.

Upon passing, the light that is in the eyes is very faint. It quickly dims and then completely disappears. It is a lot like a lighted candle in a jar when you put the lid on.

There is an emptiness that engulfs the eyes and then it is over. For me, I have come to what I believe is a pure knowledge of the existence of souls. I am completely convinced that this is the case with all living things, big and small. There are some that are more developed but there is a soul none the less.

As far as soul mates go, I believe that some are lucky enough to find theirs and some are not. I don't know if all have one but such a thing does exist.

Humans do have souls. I can sense qualities about a person innately but I truly think it is via their soul. Distance has never been a factor. I had always thought that all people did this, and sensed each other when they wanted to. I learned this was unique, at least to some people.

Just for kicks, here is a website that talks about the human aura as well as for other living objects. Does this prove there is a soul? Perhaps not but it does lend some credence to a life force.

I have seen my own aura and that of other things a countless number of times. My aura appears to be a purplish to blue color. It is actually pretty cool to see.

Here is the above website url if it doesn't work as posted.

There is most definitely a connection between humans that transcends the physical. Call it a lifeforce, a soul, a connection, whatever you wish, but it is there. I have experienced such a spiritual connection with a few people in my own life, and still do. I truly find it sad the person who cannot believe in anything beyond what they can touch and see. It limits so much their ability to truly live.

it does seem odd that in every corner of the globe there is this widespread and ancient concept of a soul

The pessimist in me tends to think it's nothing more than brain chemistry and the current structure/ pathways of one's synapses.

But that still leaves quite a few things utterly unexplained.

Like the connection between human beings that Jan speaks of. It's quite real, even tangible. Could be empathic/ psychic sensibilities, could be an Undermind, could be the reverberation and syncing up of electrical brainwaves, could be complicated and subtle pheromones, or any number of things.

The accompanying casio-tone version of "You light up my life" indescribably touched my soul.

I'm never getting married. After about four years you are scientifically tired of your "soulmate".

But Being in a relationship is healthy.

Maybe if your friend does it right he can stay with her/him forever.

I have no problem believing in souls, although I do worry about people who will readily believe anything so quickly without due diligence, time, and research to make sure their first impressions and assumptions were correct.

Oh what fools ye mortals be.

I think you have instant connections with people. Like people you've just met but you click with them and it feels like you've known them forever. These can be either sex, though.

Soulmate??? I don't know. Does that mean there is only one person you are "meant" to be with?

Souls, auras, life forces? Is there some "life force" or "soul" for lack of a better term? Yes. But this in no way argues for anything supernatural.

The rub, the confusion, begins when upon apprehension of something like a "life force" people then want to go on and make the larger claim that this is somehow supernatural or non natural. With the supernatural comes claims of ghosts, gods, reincarnation and all sorts of pathetic drivel which in the end is only self serving propaganda for a vein and frightened ego.

My wife and I had a real soul connection when we first met and we were in a dreamy state for months. We got married in that dreamy state of being and though life made us come out of that state of being, we have been off and on in and out of love with each other for over 18 years.

That Soul connection has been a life line I guess you could say, and we have tethered that line to and fro in good times and bad...

Souls do exist because the human body has already been broken down into it's primary elements by alchemyich(spelled wrong) classification.

That "light" you see is your impressions of the complexity of the human brain - you can see the same in a dog or cat - if you bother looking.
The human is "on". like when you see a stereo. The light is on. When you turn it off, the light goes out.
When you die, it's somebody else's turn. You're "off" - forever.
    Does the truth hurt?
Better get off your butt and amount to something you can honestly be proud of. You know, the real you, down in there somewhere.
