At school, there's no one like Dad - The Boston Globe

While the involvement of any parent - mother or father - is seen as a boon for a child's education, a small but growing body of controversial research has indicated that students blossom even more when a father jumps in.

Some of that influence is due to long-persisting gender stereotypes: Because American culture does not expect fathers to be actively engaged in their children's education, the act of a father stepping inside a school can bolster the importance of education in a child's mind. In a way, that clout is reminiscent of a generations-old expression still muttered by some frustrated mothers: "Just wait until your father gets home."

    • It is only common sense that children do better with both parents active in their life to have balanced role models of male and female. The problem is the governement, in particular "family" courts and lawyers are making BILLIONS per year by driving dad out of children's lives. No many people know that states get matching federal funds for child "support" collected. Not many people know that child "support" is about 3 to 5 times the actual cost of raising a child statistically when dad should pay 50% and mom should pay 50%. This perverted set of incentives to the state and lawyers (getting $78,000 avg. per litigated divorce) is destroying about 40% of the children of the U.S. now under this system.
In 2004 Mass. has a nonbinding referendum where 85% of voters elected to have 50-50 equal parenting. Not many people know that it is the lawyers on the judicial-legislative commitee that are stopping this bill (many of whom diretly make money from divorce). There is only one word for such behavior: Corruption. These people are intentionally and knowingly destroying children's and parents lives for profit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
See: www.FathersUnite.org for more facts on this national crisis and holocaust perpetrated by the judicial system on families.
Experts agree sole custody is child abuse. So why do judges order sole-custody 85% to 93% of the time?

    • But our so called "Family Court" will still keep demoting Fathers to visitor status. "Family court" judges should be sued for there destruction of Father-child relationships and stripped of all pensions etc. They are hiding behind "The best interest of the child" But all they are interested in is "The best interest of the state" To get the federal dollars

    • It shouldn't be so difficult for society to understand that the current systems put in place aim to destabilize parental rights. When I see stories like this it should emphasize the importance of two-parent involvement and that parental rights should be respected and protected. Parenting is after all, a co-equality and civil rights issue, not a gender issue at all.
