YouTube bans 'suggestive' videos

The user-created nature of YouTube makes it so that the will of the majority generally watch the stuff they want to watch. The demand for these videos must be high enough for many people to post them - therefore they exist. Porn and milder suggestive material is ubiquitous on the internet because many companies realize the massive market demand for these services. After all a large chunk of users of YouTube is males from 16-24. Web 2.0 gives users what they want because the users either make it or provide access to it.

If YouTube banned comments that "suggested" an utterly useless ignorance, they'd be out of business.

Then how in the hell will i be able to watch The "L" Word!!!???

I am not one for censorship but I wish youtube would enforce stricter standards for quality. A lot of their videos are just unwatchable.

I feel my 1st Amendment rights being infringed as we speak.

Meh, I only use YouTube to watch popular movies and dumb people getting hurt doing stupid things.

Are they also going to start banning boring vlogs that have a sexxxy picture in the middle just to get views?

Not fair. Anyone can find suggestive material in many aspects of the media. What about that Victoria Secret catalogue you get in the mail? Hows that for suggestive?!

They are only getting rid of the sexy stuff- not the violence, not the idiots complaining into their webcams, not the teenagers replicating "jackass" and posting it, not any of the other riculous crap you find on Youtube! Sex is not the end-all-be-all of respectability.

It doesn't do much for me because I'm so disgusted with how low caliber and hollow the "actors & actresses" lives are in real life. Talk about your broken souls with no future...

Seeing whores have sex on camera doesn't get me past the fact that they're whores, so I see it more as grotesque tragedy than anything else. Is there something wrong with me that I don't like people who have no standards?

On the other hand, making your own private sex tapes for personal use isn't all that bad.

Whatever the case, I applaud YouTube for trying to clean up it's content. There is enough smut all over the internet as it is, so at least people will be able to see YouTube as a legitimate and respectable presence.

Whatevs. There's a million other websites who are more than happy to host "suggestive" material.

They are blocking any porno video so whats big fuss about it.
This is nothing new, unless they are testing this so later on they will do it with the educational videos, youtube will try to keep all the crap of miley cirus instead of leting people inform you about all the bad things that are happening around the world.

I really want Youtube to "clean up' ALL the negativity that the users have been spreading, in the negativity, it seems more like Myspace, which is definity bad/evil....

It's good to want to filter suggestive material, but kids can just sign-up as 18-year-olds and see anything they want anyway.

well i used to youtube when it first became popular.. they had people making amazing video projects and stuff.. i love parkour, stop-motionvids, diy's and tv shows.. but now its filled with crappy chinese porn ads and drunk celeb stories. and tons of scams or video pranks.. and

It's only a matter of time before they try and "clean up" the entire internet.

They aren't banning anything, just stepping up on age verification and not putting sexually oriented vids in the ranks for top views and such....

good cause thats not supposed to be on there.

Someone needs to come up with a better way of verifying a person's age without violating privacy.

Youtube isn't banning anything new.

They are just broadening their definition of 'sexual content' viewable only for adults.

It just means you'll have to click more buttons to get where you want to go, that's all.

But still all the violence you can eat.

I'm all for reducing the amount of videos that are basically just junk pseudo-porn. The rest of the internet is already full of porn, if that's what we wanted we could get it elsewhere. I just hope that the censoring doesn't go further than junk-porn.

I'm sure all those spam porn vids are wasting a lot of space and bandwidth, maybe it will improve their service??

HOLY CRAP!! I just read that Youtube receives over 13 HOURS of user generated video every MINUTE!! That's incredible, how big are their servers??

I don't see the need for putting a black bar over somebody's eyes, either.

I don't see the need for it! They have a filter! Expand on it! Give me a break!

I see this as more of a liability issue for them. By doing this, Google comes out looking better by saying they've tried to limit access to minors. However users circumvent this is their issue.

They would be better cleaning the comments up, which probably would require removing 99% of them
