As we all know, the powers-that-be at the Federal Reserve, in the federal government, and on Wall Street are trying their best to make sure that prices do not come down. But, wouldn’t this be an ideal time for food prices to come down, so that people in dire financial straights can better afford to keep food on the table?

I noticed this to be true during my last shopping trip. A few items seem to have gone back to their "normal" price, but most are still uncomfortably high. It'll make Christmas harder for this family of six.

This headline's question can only be answered when huge conglomerates, like Monsanto, understand that price gauging doesn't work in the long run.
-
I though food prices are rising because of the effects extreme weather has had on crops this year?
-
Once the wealth and greedy corporations get a chance to raise the price, they hope consumers will get used to it and not notice that they don't drop back down.
-
I clearly remember prices going up at every store and the shopkeepers I queried solemnly blamed the price of fuel. Now that the cost of fuel is half that prior to the US presidential election (hey there conspiracy theorists!), how about a price reduction! Yeah right--let's all keep dreaming . . .

All things happen in time.
It could be true of what the shopkeepers or other officials say about the gas and if so then it would take slightly longer for other items to come down in price.
However given the progress of modern society one would think that these situation would take place more expediently. That is if your not also considering human error.

Simple greed is fueling the rise in food prices. Gas is low so too should be the shipping of food to stores.

I'm assuming that the Arabs have cornered the market on our food supply's, a new cartel to screw us. After all they have all the money, banks and politicians in their pockets.

nice idea, though sadly the reason food prices have gone up isn't related to why the financial crisis has brought other prices down. what has gone down is largely commodities, since people are less likely to spend on luxuries in financially difficult times. Unfortunately foods that we need everyday don't fall into the 'luxuries' category...
-
It's not only a nice idea but it is the truth when what caused the high prices in food was primarily trucking fuel cost it only stems to reason that with oil and fuel prices dropping fast so should the price of food that is transported. If not then, someone has taken the next step in commodities monopoly. They can never just hide the trillions in oil profits it must go somewhere for the sociopaths to feel their need to dominate fellow man.

It's the perfect opportunity to shove GMOS down our throats because that is the only way it can happen. For the WTO to keep prices high and access low to spark 'shortages' to then flood countries with biocrap to make more profits for multinational agribusiness. Think about it.

Food needs to drop. Should be. But won't be.
