Alright... it's about time.
Our infrastructure has been declining for decades. -
I hope he succeeds beyond our wildest dreams.
-
I hope he begins with a renewable energy infrastructure, this will create jobs, keep the energy money in our economy, and slow the climate change.
-
Obama brings hope. I know he will invest in the most important infrastructure: people. Education and human services should be targeted.
-
Quick aside: The word, infrastructure, turns Rachel Maddow on.
Me, too, when used properly.
I don't envy Obama's crew in the coming years. -
ill believe it when i see it.
-
On my gosh.... This isn't a socialist agenda is it!!????
I mean - gee whiz - investing money at home for safe bridges, clean sewers, better roads and schools and putting people to work! Not to mention trying to implement a clean, renewable energy policy... Arrggh - run for the hills! It smacks of some kind of pinko commie #&%^(@ takeover!!!!
JK of course -
I currently live in new orleans. Moved here after Katrina. You would not believe how underdeveloped this city still is: the levies were fixed cosmetically; the bridges are in dire need of repair; the city is dark, largely unlit at night, providing a breeding ground for all sorts of illicit activity; some roads are simply un-drivable... and this is just one small cross-section of the U.S.
I have devoted much of my life to improving conditions for those in other parts of the world, only to land in a city that needs all of the same improvements.
Like the old adage says, "think globally, act locally."
-
One concern is that the local governments allocate the funding properly. Where I live the city council is preparing for this but have left out notoriously neglected neighborhoods. The base should have been trained for these kind of battles but instead were used as a means to the end.
-
finally. coming from a bush supporter, thank you obama.
-
i look forward to this. infrastructure is easy to take for granted, and it's about time it was given direct attention.
-
it creates a ton of jobs, gets people working again, gets people back to the understanding of what a working day really is. our grandparents grew up working for survival and turned out fine, our parents didn't and they're terrible and now we, are all screwed up. anyone see this besides me?
-
wow current, already picked for tv. unbiased my ass.
-
I just hope he isn't all talk. I voted for him but I still say we can't trust any politician. Even assuming he is sincere about wanting change, it's all ultimately out of his hands. Congress and corporations are the true reigning power.
-
While this plan looks wonderful in theory, someone tell me where the allocated $ $ $ is going to come from in order to invest in this.

I think a lot of people worried about a "socialist" agenda are looking at it wrong. Basically, there are three "people" who spend money and keep our economy growing (or going) consumers, business, and government. Guess what?.. business and consumers are broke. Maybe the government should spend some money. (especially at these rates.) JMHO
-
@JayB:
The money is going to come from the same place all the other money comes from - our debt. Maybe if we weren't spending hundreds of billions more on our military than we need to, asking where the money is going to come from wouldn't be much of an issue.
-
Didn't vote for him, but glad he's President. I really hope that he can come through on everything he says. America will get out of this hole much quicker.
Jay, I think the $$$, even though we don't have it, will come as money spent in America, for America, and by Americans, greatly improving our economic structure. Because the $$$ will stay in America. The greatest part of America's current deficit belongs to Iraq and China.
I'm all for the infrastucture plan.

that's great...n't. what is it about the rampant spending we indulge in that ticks 3rd worlders off such that NO amount of change for US helps THEM. Again, who do we think we are? The saviors of the world? Oh yeah...we do ..as long as those poor "no toilet paper" masses worship us. All you fly-goggled chicks with your skimpy clothes are propagating anger and envy...watch out 9-11..you may be miniscule in light of the forthcoming bondage to healthcare providers! Having REVERSED atrial fibrillations (that had caused me to have collapsed previously on a construction site and end my job) with the aid of only HERBS and SUPPLEMENTS I can only see the allopathic ER worthwhile for transitory complaints / emergencies. All the drug poisoning kills millions worldwide...guess we're coming closer to Prince Phillip of England's statement calling for the reduction of the world population to less than a few million (wow! hundreds of gas guzzling SUV's per person when that's achieved...no problem ! Sign me up !..n't) just kidding. we oughtta be fine...there's not a sell- you- down- the- river and divest- your-unique-constitutional-rights- to -a- world- power bone in his body... I'm just glad I don't have that job..I AM thankful that the struggling may find some relief at the expense of the uber rich (I hope).

With unemployment skyrocketing, there should be no shortage of labor. Troops will hopefully start returning home sooner rather than later, further adding to a skilled workforce. The whole country is long overdue for maintenance that will now cost more & take longer to complete. But it's still more great news from P-E Obama.

Obama's first term seems like it will be spent doing what should have already been done.
-
It all depends on how and where the money is spent. New public transportation and railways would be good for the environment and for commuters, as well. Rebuilding our cities should be priority. Do we really need more and more new roads to encourage people to keep moving farther and farther out beyond the suburbs into the exburbs?
