The research found certain nerve damage in the form of damaged nerve cells in the cerebral cortex and in the hippocampus, the memory center of the brain. Albumin leakage occurs directly after radiation, while the nerve damage occurs only later, after four to eight weeks. Moreover, they have discovered alterations in the activity of a large number of genes, not in individual genes but in groups that are functionally related.

    • That explain why there are many zombies in america.
I feel sorry for the kids , their parents are giving them the latest cellular but dont know how much damage are doing to their kids.
The future generations are going to pay a big price, ah but who cares ..nobody cares anymore.
PS (USE THE SPEAKER MODE WHEN YOU USE YOUR CELL PHONE) .
KEEP IT AWAY FROM YOUR FACE.

    • I've never had a cell phone. I had beeper back in the day, and it annoyed the hell out of me. I always figured a cell phone would be even worse, so I never got one.

On the flip side, I've engaged in a different type of activity for years that also affects one's memory. Life is full of trade offs.

    • This is huge news. I'm sure that cellphone companies across the world are trembling in anticipation of all the lawsuits heading their way.

    • For a start. What about all the additional ailments, including increased brain tumor rates rising among frequent cell phone users? Children are even more susceptible because of thinner skulls & brain tumors have become a leading cause of death for young teens. Industry assessment of the potential explosion in cell phone related adverse health conditions has been kept secret for years. Just like the cigarette companies, eventually having irrefutable evidence of how unhealthy using their product was - this was a closely guarded secret for years. I see the cell phone industry in the same light. We've been officially warned now.

    • Re cell phones: the largest electromagenic field is generated when you are talking because you are transmitting....so either wear a head set because the strength of the EMF measured in milligauss drops off by the square of the distance from the source OR listen a lot.....I did EMF research several years ago at a major university which explored why electromagnetic radiation suppresses melationin production from the pineal gland. Because of that research I DO NOT OWN A CELL PHONE.

    • i'm like the last penguin in line willing to sacrifice myself for the group to test the shark-infested waters. in a couple decades, if everyone's brains aren't tumor-ridden and decrepit, i'll consider regular cell phone use.

    • I've always believed those things are dangerous. I wouldn't use one if I had one, which I do, but I don't use it. It was given to me by my Uncle who passed on this past year and I only keep it for sentimental value. I'll always wonder if the phone helped contribute to his cancer, along with that stupid CDL lightbulb....u know, the one filled with mercury. I think they are deliberately trying to kill us. Great post.

    • So, I'm right for not owning a cell? Good, maybe now people will stop giving me funny looks whenever I pull the old rotary out my duffel bag.

    • c'est la vie, people aren't going to stop using them, if I can't remember something I'll just call someone who knows. With my cell phone.

    • The brain and the physical act and mental act of half-assing everything in your daily life because you're either trying to text while you're doing something or getting a call, in the call.

    • there are a lot more side effects to cell phones we can't link yet. there are a lot more cases of random things happening medically that shouldn't and a lot is finally getting linked to cell phones.

    • What an absolute waste of money. I think they are talking a load of crap like the previous study's people have done on mobile phones.

    • Hardly surprising, as cell-phones emit microwaves which slowly cook the part of the brain closest to the ear against which one holds the cell-phone.

    • Me: Why did you call?
      You: What? You called me!
Me: I, most certainly, did NOT!
You: Look! I was asleep and you...um...wait. I did call you.
Me: See? I told you. What's up?
      You: I have no idea.
Me: Oh. Call me back when you remember.
      You: Right.
      *click*
      -later-
You: I was supposed to call someone about something. Wasn't I? Hmmmmm.

    • yea.. you have to wonder just how unnatural it is to have such a compact and powerful electronic device which allows you to communicate with someone on the other side of the world.. and have it shoved up against the side of your head for up to an hour at a time..

the first time i became concerned was when i would hear that random buzzing sound my computer would make just before my cell phone would ring.. there is absolutely no way someone could argue that a computer, composed of metal and electronic hardware, is more susceptible to radiation and transmission than brain tissue..

do you honestly believe that the telecommunications industry would ever willingly inform (or even admit to) the public of any danger associated with their cash cow?

      me neither..

ScienceDaily (Dec. 5, 2008) — Can radiation from cell phones affect the memory? Yes -- at least it appears to do so in rat experiments conducted at the Division of Neurosurgery, Lund University, in Sweden. Henrietta Nittby studied rats that were exposed to mobile phone radiation for two hours a week for more than a year. These rats had poorer results on a memory test than rats that had not been exposed to radiation.

The memory test consisted of releasing the rats in a box with four objects mounted in it. These objects were different on the two occasions, and the placement of the objects was different from one time to the other.

The actual test trial was the third occasion. This time the rats encountered two of the objects from the first and two of the objects from the second occasion. The control rats spent more time exploring the objects from the first occasion, which were more interesting since the rats had not seen them for some time. The experiment rats, on the other hand, evinced less pronounced differences in interest.

Henrietta Nittby and her, supervisor Professor Leif Salford, believe that the findings may be related to the team's earlier findings, that is, that microwave radiation from cell phones can affect the so-called blood-brain barrier. This is a barrier that protects the brain by preventing substances circulating in the blood from penetrating into the brain tissue and damaging nerve cells. Leif Salford and his associates have previously found that albumin, a protein that functions as a transport molecule in the blood, leaks into brain tissue when laboratory animals are exposed to mobile phone radiation.

The research team also found certain nerve damage in the form of damaged nerve cells in the cerebral cortex and in the hippocampus, the memory center of the brain. Albumin leakage occurs directly after radiation, while the nerve damage occurs only later, after four to eight weeks. Moreover, they have discovered alterations in the activity of a large number of genes, not in individual genes but in groups that are functionally related.

"We now see that things happen to the brains of lab animals after cell phone radiation. The next step is to try to understand why this happens," says Henrietta Nittby.

She has a cell phone herself, but never holds it to her ear, using hands-free equipment instead.

I think handsfree while driving should be law. I don't think you can really pay attention and be safe with one hand to your head all the time and of curse people driving and texting.

I think its because there are so many special interests groups out there that basically bribe law makers to vote in favor of these multi-billion dollar businesses. Oh wait... thats the story of America. You are so right tursiops.

    • I haven't had a cell phone in years! My friends make fun of me but who'll be laughing when their brains are leaking out of their head in a radiated goo? Bwahaha!

I wish I could say I don't have one because of all of the possible health concerns, but I'm just flat out broke :(
