Outrage at iPhone drug dealer game

Image...
A drug dealing game for the iPhone which allows players to sell narcotics on their own street corner launches later this month.

In Underworld, contestants can act as small-time drug pushers who buy and sell stashes of cannabis and ecstasy.

The free game for Apple's must-have gadget was described as 'the last thing we need' by Thelma Pickard, whose daughter Amy (pictured) fell into a coma after a heroin overdose in 2001 when she was just 17.

A-Steroids, the game's US makers, declined to comment yesterday.

    hmm thelma, I've played many a similar app on the net and I have not had a heroin overdose...
    maybe some better parenting skills are needed.

    Pretty sure there was a game like this for the TI-83 Plus Graphing Calculator... and a similar game called "Rape Man" in which you gained points by infecting women with HIV. What else is new?

    I think that Mac has gone a little too ap happy with this iphone.

    I can figure out where I want to eat without a slot machine application.

    Sounds like a great game. Is it available for the PS3?

    Definitely getting this game on my iPhone as soon as it's available! And don't act like this game is worse than all the others out there. Thelma is just pissed cause her daughter was bumbin' lines of junk and she didn't parent her well enough. This game is just allowing you to practice and enhance your "business" skills in a FAKE reality. I don't see a problem with responsible adults using games with themes like such.

    Cannabis = GREAT
    Ecstasy= BAD

    I remember playing Dope Wars on my old TI calculator back in Jr. High. Nope. No drug addictions here. Just good 'ol fashioned alcohol abuse.

    Send the game to Mexico. Maybe it will give them more great ideas.

    "sell narcotics on their own street corner"?
    That is absolutely crazy, who comes up with this sort of stuff?! That game doesn't even sound fun.

    drug dealers love this game.
    regarding angry mothers though... all that is needed is better parenting skills.

    oh come one, GTA has drug pushing, murder, prostitutes... a druggie game coming up on iphones isn't much different. Just cos it's not marketed (entirely) as a games console doesn't mean it should have different rules.

    In other news, anyone else heard rumours about a version of GTA coming out on iPhone? (or perhaps it was just a 3rd-party hack I read about..)

    Finally something to do between drug deals

    Love it or hate it it's just capitalism.

    That's minor unless... It has you killing your drug dealer, stealing his stash and money, going and buying a ho... doing the same to her, then you gotta worry, especially if you are using your contacts to play this.

    You will eventually run out of friends. And that will suck.

    (errg. I wrote this before I read all the comments.)

    Lame, its a cell phone game, not a console version. i bet it's mostly text too. how fun can it be selling drugs, I'd personally rather do them and go on a hike, not pretend to be 50 jr.

    Heroin overdose? how was this related to a game? Some serious issues upstairs for sure.

    Thats why we live in America, the land of the free and the land of the seedy video games- if you don't like it move to Iraq or something!

    Aaaaand, another meagerly risque game grabs headlines when combined with an unfortunate event in one person's life ... from SEVEN YEARS AGO.

    I have family members who passed away from various causes decades ago - but I don't go around making it my personal war on said causes for the rest of my life.

    Teach your kids not to smoke, drink and inject so much junk into their system that it kills them. And do it without vilifying everyone who does, so they don't end up in a coma out of spite. The video games make no difference.

    Also the minute you start telling people not to play games, the minute that game suddenly gets into the public eye.

    Well there have been games showing murder since games came out. Drug dealing is just another bad road games must go down. Terrible. How about a game of reality? Showing how not finishing school leads to drug dealing, murder and prison.
