Muxlim Pal launched as Second-Life style virtual world for Muslims
Muxlim Pal, the first virtual world for Muslims, has been launched in a trial version.
Based loosely on other virtual worlds such as Second life and The Sims, the game lets members control the life of a cartoon avatar to explore the Muxlim Pal world .
Members can control several "meters" governing happiness, fitness, knowledge and spirituality that change when the character carries out tasks in the social world.
The avatar or 'pal' can go to prayer rooms and go shopping.
Aimed at Muslims in Western nations, Muxlim Pal's creators hope it will also foster understanding among non-Muslims.
Many of the men wear beards and the female characters can choose to wear a hijab. However, makers of the site insists it is not aimed at religious people.
"We are not a religious site, we are a site that is focused on the lifestyle," said its founder, Mohamed El-Fatatry
"This is for anyone who is remotely interested in the Muslim culture and the Muslim lifestyle," he told the BBC.
