Mercenaries are men without souls. We have two classes of mercenaries. One class is human and the other is the corporation that exists solely for profit with no other spiritual center.
They both worship the bottom line as their only spiritual compass.

As long as there are countries or despots willing to pay we will always have mercenaries. The only question this leaves is how to regulate them. If a country hires them then it should make them obligated to follow the same rules of their military. Using this reasoning Blackwater and it's employees would have to stand trial for the crimes they have committed. If they were tried under the UCMJ none would see daylight for some time to come.

A mercenary does not work for any particular country but works for the highest bidder and himself.
The money paid out to them makes the amount I was paid in the military mind blowing but the bottom line is that whoever they fight for it is government subsidised

You make a simple argument, yet if you watched the whole series of videos you might not make such a statement. Some of these companies are legitimate and won't get involved no matter what the bid amount might be.

Simple points usually hit closer to the actual point. The point made is that the government that is paying for the services should be accountable for the soldiers that are hired.

Ever since the first caveman beat another caveman to death, he has been paying someone to do it for him. I fully support Private Military Contractors, they have bailed out several legitimate governments, stopped genocides, and assist the downsized US military.
Say what you will about Contractors, but read the history first :P

On the surface I don't think mercenaries are any better or worse than uniformed soldiers. Of course, they aren't subject to the same regulations i.e. the geneva convention. I am also lackin completely in confidence that said convention is really obeyed 100% of the time.

Say that to the other dozens of countries that dont, its a piece of paper, and if you dont abide by it whats going to happen? Is the UN gonna come in and stop you, yeah, along with the dozens of genocides they have on the waiting list list. Get real, the only countries it affects are "Civil" Western states, anything else is free reign.

The Geneva convention is not a joke. It is like you said a piece of paper, an agreement. Like all agreements there are some who try to weasel there way out of them. That however is one aspect of the issue that PMC's don't have the oversight of the citizens of the country that hired them. The rest of that issue is that we don't really have oversight of our regular armed forces anyway. And the instances where we do get oversight it tends to turn into a witch hunt.

Sometimes I see this as a social cancer. Something that feeds into itself and if business are not good, nothing can stop a group of people from start a conflict. Then there is the other side where people come in to stabilize a dangerous situation provoked by dangerous individuals or groups. Over all what these people are doing it is only to rip the advantages of poor educated countries and societies.

A soldier of fortune is just that. They risk their lives for the paycheck which they contract for. Not good or bad just exist. Why condemn and individual who will do just what he is told by the US or a nation with the obvious ability to pay for what it needs. A soldier is just that. One who does what he is paid to do. Mercs are just the same. I would be one if I wasn't too old.
