Pretty incredible how some people are hailed for their inventions, but at the same time seem prime candidates for the Darwin Award!

"She had carried test tubes containing radioactive isotopes in her pocket and stored them in her desk drawer, remarking on the pretty blue-green light that the substances gave off in the dark"

Christ that's sad - i could have done without knowing that!

Who would jump off the Eiffel tower without using a test dummy first? Oh wait, he was the dummy.

Obviously this article is really sad, but there's a certain nice poetic symmetry to it; they were killed by their passions in a way.

    This is kinda sad really.

If I invented something and knew that it would kill someone.. I think I would want that person to be me. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if my invention killed someone else..

great clip, interesting mixture of more obscure daredevils and famous names. damn, that vid clip of Franz Reichelt is terrifying. just what made him think it'd work? and didn't he test it first?

Ugh. I just read the related article at http://listverse.com/people/top-10-scientists-killed-or-injured-by-their-experim...

Louis Slotin accidentally initiated a fusion reaction and died of radiation poisoning 9 days later. What an awful way to go.

Radioactive isotopes in her pocket. The office secretaries where they were first blowing off atomic weapons would hang the "green glass" from ground zero around their necks for jewelry. The military didn't mention it was dangerous.
