A cycling tour of the African continent

We're Eric and Amaya, two slightly adventurous souls who set off in June 2006 to explore Africa by bicycle. After 17 months on the road and more adventure than we had imagined--from hassles with drunken officials in Guinea Bissau to a long slog through the desolate Namib desert-- we arrived in Cape Town, having traversed 32 countries and pedaled more than 30,000 kilometers. From Africa's southernmost tip, we began the long journey home via East Africa. The new year brought with it a fit of Africa exhaustion and a sudden change of plans brought us to South India for a six month sojourn. We cycled around the sub-continent, sampled its ashrams and stayed fit by doing lots of yoga. July 18th, 2008 marked our return to South Africa, from where we headed north towards Swaziland, then on to Mozambique, into Malawi, up towards Tanzania, through Kenya and into Ethiopia. From there, we'll cycle into Sudan for another grueling slog through the desert before reaching Cairo, where we hope to ring in the New Year 2009.
