Black Milk recruited Pharaohe Monch, Kardinall Offishall, Bishop Lamont and others for his release, "Elec," a teaser for his album "Tronic." Wale put out his Seinfeld inspired "The Mixtape About Nothing." The Hood Internet honored it's hometown with "The Hood Internet vs. Chicago." Charles Hamilton released 10 mixtapes including our favorite, "Crash Landed." Lil Wayne released "The Drought Is Over Part 6" and Kanye West redeemed himself with "Sky High." Okay, that's 6. My favorite of the Hamiltanization mixtapes is "Sonic the Hamilton" the worst is a tie between "Intervention" and "The L Word"

2 that you left out were:
Asher Roth "The Greenhouse Effect pt.1"
    and
Kid Cudi "A Kid Named Cudi"

Lil wayne sucks lyrically...you guys missed some real hip hop with the EVIDENCE "The Layover Mixtape" by DJ Skee

Mashups have been played out for a while, and that stuff shouldn't be on a list of top hip-hop mixtapes. The image of those two nerdy dudes from Chicago acting like they're doing something special in front of their computers is off-putting. Also, I was hoping Current would show us something other than Kanye and Weezy, who are all over every channel anyway. Props on including Black Milk though. That whole Detroit scene is poppin off right now. As for who's tied at number 1, not very creative. I may as well be watching Extra or E news or something.

    lil wayne & kanye ::yawn::
seeing how many people boost sales and popularize either artists makes it easier to understand how this country got raped by the last 8yrs of GWB
    but thats just my opinion.
I agree w/ DreSandoval and his Evidence mix, that is the HOT ISH
and if you want some hot white-boy remixes GirlTalk prolly heads the class

Kid CuDi definitely had the freshest mixtape of '08.

I don't know why Kanye and Wayne are #1....that's garbage...

and for the 2 nerd boys in Chicago...I congratulate them...at least they know how to mash up something. besides music is music...S#!*....

probably one of the worst daily fix choices ever made.

maybe it's just my snobbish dj side coming out...

808s was a disappointment to some extent. I pray that Kanye can rebound on the next album.

Lil Wayne needs to take a vacation he is over saturated. I am sick and tired of weezy being on everyones track.

Look out for Wale though, he is going to be a monster in the future, only if he gets the right production team. I hope he can get on Lupe's level some day, because LupEND is coming.

Eh, Lil' Wayne is edgy, but Kanye has got more Talent.
I really prefer the first three mixed tapes of this list.
I'd have expected Hood Internet to be placed higher.
Kanye vs Wilco was better than the top 2 combined.

Sorry but Wayne's new mixtape really sucks. However, the remixes on Kayne's new mixtape are fucking tight.

I'm not surprised that LiL'Wayne turned out to be number one. He releases a mixtape every 30 minutes that is no joke either. And Kanye is starting to fall off his shit what happened to him?

    Worst pod ever... lil wayne?????

Two thumbs down for that one.

Yet to hear one quality track from that guy.

People like him cause they're told to.

I'm pretty bummed about this pod. Why choose unofficial tapes? Really good official tapes like Wale's are the best ones.

I loved that Current covered this topic. And I see it's hit a few nerves. I'd been to some of these web destinations before the pod but I'd never come across The Hood Internet - they were inventive and brough new blood to old tunes - and Charles Hamilton before (cool to have a real musician who's so talented and street!) Nice one. I have to agree with Sikander that #1 was kinda uninspiring. But, my biggest complaint is that these are all American. With so many pod contributions from outside the US why are the mixtapes so American? The rest of the world has been sadly omitted.
