Our current nation's current investment for NIMH to prevent and ultimately cure mental illness is $1.4 billion. The cost of treating the devastating symptoms and effects as this illness rages on exceeding $310 billion a year. If scientific discoveries continue federal investments in biomedical research will pay dividends both economically and in the quality of life experienced by 57 million Americans.

Can we afford to ignore this investment???

    • I worked in the Mental Health field for over 21 years. I saw how little was done to help these people live a successful life in the community. I saw how people treated them as though they were week and lazy.
      I don't know anyone that ever wanted to be mentally ill but I knew many that wanted a cure, or meds that didn't have such severe side effects and to have the ability to live in their own community.
      Thank you for making more people aware of the situation.
