Next month Volvo will launch a car that will stop itself when it believes it might crash into another car or a pedestrian, even when travelling at low speeds.

Volvo say this will be the world's first accident-proof car.

"This technology helps us take an important step towards our long-term vision of designing cars that should not crash. Our aim for 2020 is that no one should be killed or injured in a Volvo car," said Thomas Broberg, the company's safety specialist.

The system works with a radar unit fitted in the car's grille, which detects what's in front of the vehicle, & also how fast it is moving.

When the car believes that there is an imminent threat of a collision, a light flashes on a windscreen display in front of the driver at the same time as an audible warning.

If the driver not respond, the brakes are applied automatically.

If it could automatically reverse park as well, I'd definitely get one!

Carry on with the old school designs and I have a feeling you might be lucky if people are driving Volvos in 2020...

And five quid says I could crash the car above :D
