Posing as a bidder, Utah student disrupts government auction of wilderness

Image...
In a national broadcast exclusive, University of Utah student Tim DeChristopher explains how he “bought” 22,000 acres of land in an attempt to save the property from drilling. The sale had been strongly opposed by many environmental groups. Stephen Bloch of the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance said, "This is the fire sale, the Bush administration’s last great gift to the oil and gas industry.

Brave kid! Now, the feds have to still figure out what to charge him with..what a load of bs....this kid is a national hero-an International hero!!! and more people in the world need to stand up and DO something instead of passively watching and talking. Shame on the oil companies for stealing beautiful land to tear it up for oil.

This delays the re-selling of this land for 1 month so that it will no longer be sold under the Bush administration... and will hopefully not be sold at all. What a surprise he was removed by federal agents. This guy clearly is a much greater patriot than the oil whores in the white house. Thank you!

    I love this quote:

TIM DeCHRISTOPHER: Once I started buying up every parcel, they understood pretty clearly what was going on. And so, at that point, they stopped the auction, and some federal agents came in and took me out. And from other people who were in the room afterwards, I guess there was a lot of chaos, and they didn’t really know how to proceed at that point. But then, I was away talking to the federal agents at that point.

So basically in the eyes of the government you're not a "real" citizen with a "real" voice unless you have several millions dollars.

    But why was he removed?

Was itbecause he was not an "official" bidder?

What the fuck does that mean? That you aren't a "real" citizen with a "real" claim on any of that public land unless you are a corporation?

So Corporations are "real" citizens and regular people....well, the Bush Admin just doesn't give a shit what non-billionaires think.

    Another excerpt:

AMY GOODMAN: Tim DeChristopher, you’re not alone. Members of the National Park Service; members of Congress; John Podesta, head of the President-elect Barack Obama’s transition team, have all said the lease sale should be halted or altered to accommodate environmental concerns.

How psychotic is Bush? Basically he has huge sections of his own government AND the Presidet-Elect all SCREAMING at this psycho to stop the sale....and Johnny Fuckup (my pet name for Bush) just plows right ahead.

Bush is clinically insane. He is just flat out batshit crazy and should be removed from office on grounds of mental incompetence right now. We shouldn't be forced to wait until Jan.

    I applaud his civil disobedience.
    We need more..

I blame Pelosi and Reid. Had they initiated impeachment proceedings these underhanded pricks might have been dehorsed by now.

I have a couple of quotes you may remember.
“The days of the do-nothing Congress are over,” declared Democratic Sen. Harry Reid .. BULLSHIT!

“This new Democratic majority has heard the voices of the American people,” said Rep. Nancy Pelosi.. AGAIN, BULLSHIT!
Quotes from when the Democrats "took back Congress". Yeah, right..

Fantastic...Yea for Tim DeChristopher. This is the type of civil disobedience that makes the uninformed really think about things.

He hurt no one...he insulted no one....he brought to light yet another criminal injustice of Bush and Co.

I heard his story on the radio, one of his friends called in and nominated him for person of the year. The lady on the radio said that he was facing a charge of fraud, and there is an organization that is raising money to help him pay for a legal defense team, and to keep this land from being drilled.

bold move by a good person, the sales equal about wat 7 million in total he bid on 1.7 worth of land.but it makes u think all that land for 7 million and the only celeb that said anything in advance was redford cause its his state.with that much land at stake why are we letting big oil be the only bidders in the first place.hope they stop this in court but we are running out of places like this

He gets points for creativity and initiative.

I wonder if he has any outside-the-box ideas on how to stop the economic sabotage as well.

Thanks man!! That's my back yard! If you've ever been to the areas of Southern Utah in question, you'd see why it's worth a fight.
