A new national poll suggests that three out of four Americans feel President Bush's departure from office is coming not a moment too soon.

Seventy-five percent of those questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released Friday said they're glad Bush is going; 23 percent indicated they'll miss him.

"Earlier this year, Bush scored some of the lowest presidential approval ratings we've seen in half a century, so it's understandable that the public is eager for a new president to step in," said Keating Holland, CNN polling director.

CNN senior political analyst Bill Schneider added, "As President Bush prepares to leave office, the American public has a parting thought: Good riddance. At least that's the way three-quarters feel."

The portion who say they won't miss Bush is 24 percentage points higher than the 51 percent who said they wouldn't miss President Bill Clinton when he left office in January 2001. Forty-five percent of those questioned at that time said they would miss Clinton.

    • The Bush administration, with Cheney in the lead, did not so much fight the danger of terrorism as exploit it for partisan political purpose. The record is quite clear that the administration was asleep at the switch before 9/11, blithely ignoring stark warnings of an impending attack. But the hoary warmongering after 9/11 afforded a convenient distraction from the economic problems at home. As I asked in a column on June 26, 2002: “Has the war on terrorism become the modern equivalent of the Roman circus, drawing the people’s attention away from the failures of those who rule them? Corporate America is a shambles because deregulation, the mantra of our president and his party, has proved to be a license to steal.”

That is the true legacy of Dick Cheney and the president he ill-served.

    • By the way, it was George BU$H that presided over the PRESENT financial meltdown, so it was BU$H that put ALL of us IN DEBT!

Not to mention paying over $4 dollars a Frickin GALLON for gasoline while his oil buddies picked our pockets!

Like I missed having money for the last 8 years? You must be an arms dealer or an oil magnate.

Here's a question for you Alex, The WTC was attacked in 1993, yet we don't give Bill Clinton credit for keeping us safe until 2000, do we?

Yet you want us to bend over and kiss George Bushes @ss for something he SHOULD have been doing on 9/11/2001!

Keep us safe? I would call that a JOKE, but a LOT of us aren't LAUGHING!

Also, letting you know, I come from a MILITARY family! We fought in WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, Desert Storm and this present 'abortion' that the BU$H Administration dared to call a 'war'.

When I talked my cousin into joining the service in 2005, I thought it would be 'good' for him, but after the 'horror' stories he told me, I can UNDERSTAND why he can't WAIT to get OUT!

    • That is because I DID go through hell...In January 2001 I was working a 'good' TV job...ok so it only paid me $12 an hour, but compared to what I have had since $12 an hour was like being RICH!

I lost that job in February 2001 and haven't had a job THAT good since. My last TV job paid $10 an hour, but I should have kept it now looking back in hindsight.

But off ALL the jobs I had when BU$H was President, there wasn't a ONE that didn't SUCK! $7 an hour at Disney Corp...f%^king Disney for God's sake!

I am GLAD he is LEAVING! Hallelujah!

From January 20, 2001 until September 12, 2008 Neocon Radio 'blamed' Clinton & the Democrats...From September 12, 2008 until NOW they are trying to 'blame' Obama who hasn't even taken office!

It has nothing to do with hate. It has to do with the law and equal justice for all regardless of rank.

He used his position like a despot or monarche who acts above the law. In America we are all supposed to be accountable for our actions. We may not hate the thief who robbed the bank, but we want him to be accountable.

Would you want the Democrat to get away with the kinds of things Bush did? Its dangerous for us to not have all our leaders accountable.

If he is not held accountable, other presidents could do what he did. We as a nation did not take to the streets to protest and demand that he be impeached, and that made him realize that he could get away with what he did. Damn Pelosi for sayng "impeachment is off the table."

    • This was the WORST example of a president I have ever seen and I lived through NIXON!

During Dubya's term we were ATTACKED with a MONTH'S notice with a PDB...he went on vacation...

He started a MAJOR CONFLICT on 'unverifiable' information...Cheney said they would have done it anyway...He needs prosecuted...

When Joe Wilson FAILED to verify the 16 word's The Pretzel should have 'choked' on...Karl Rove outted his wife Valerie Plame that put many in harm's way...Scooter Libby took the fall just to have his sentence commuted...(by the way Libby was Marc Riches Attorney)...

Dick Cheney & Donald Rumsfeld condoned torture at Abu Ghraib...and waterboarding...and we wonder why Iraqis throw shoes at HIM?...75% of us KNOW WHY!

Katrina destoyed New Orleans with parts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama...people were commiting suicide at the SuperDome while armed 'thugs' prowled the city...Dubya says "Heck of a JOB Brownie? The Arabian Horse Trainer?

And FINALLY, it STARTED with ENRON where Dick Cheney kept the minutes secret (pre-9/11) and Ken lay commited suicide...and ENDED with an ECONOMIC COLLAPSE!

As I said GEORGE BU$H was WORSE THAN NIXON!

The WORST I have EVER SEEN!

i wish there was a survey to see what percentage of american's would like to see bush punished for his crimes ... and how it compares to those just glad to see his time run out.

The only problem with that is that it leaves the president with no accountability.

Does it sound right to support whoever is in charge,... no matter what? Unconditional support leads to irreversible, damaging executive descisions. Is it not patriotic to question our leaders? That's how the USA was founded.
How would us wolves deal with these situations? That's a difficult hypothetical,... when this crappy president created many of the situations.
It's okay to question authority,... and in many cases - vital for progress. It sounds like you wouldn't mind a dictatorship,... not a democracy where THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO SPEAK FOR US!

Yah, lets back the bastard, let’s back him into a corner and throw all of our shoes at him.

The Iraqi mother of this child will probably want to thank him. I know she backs him; well that is if she is still alive, along with 150,000 + innocent Iraqi women and children.

Where's my damn shoes, I have a pair of red, white and blue wing tips here somewhere.

"The Dodge," your logic here is absurd. If the Nazi's used this kind of logic then they should have supported their Furor Adolph Hitler, no matter what. How about Saddam Hussein and his people? No matter what! What about Pol Pot, the Ottoman Sultans, Caligula, Idi Amin, Stalin, Ivan the Terrible, the Borgias, the Conquistadores, Marat, Jim Jones, the Mafia crime lords, this list could go on and on. Let's just back the whole damn bunch.

They are leaders so they must be supported and backed all the way. Just think of all the situations these guys had to deal with on a daily basis. I weep with sympathy.

This is the first President I have ever wanted to put my boot up his ass. Then when 2002 arrived it got worse and by 2003 it was off the charts. Now that it is 2008 I am trying to put it into words and I feel inadequate.

You say lets all start being Americans; you are a little late for that. On November 4th, the American people stood up and returned to being what America stands for. Americans finally got off their complacent asses and voted this imbecile out and all that he stands for. To quote 'your' Mr. Bush: "We sent him a strong message!"

The noise you hear on January 20th 2009 will be the whole world rising up and shouting with joy.

You provoked me to vent so please don't take my response here personal as it is aimed mostly at Dubya for what he has done to America and the rest of the world. His damage and carnage has struck on a global scale.

Bush should not only be impeached but he should be tried for war crimes and treason.

Now do you really want to know how I feel?

      End of rant.
      Peace
