Government considers Japanese style bullet trains

The transport minister has put forward a plan for the UK's main cities to be served by a high speed rail link along the same lines as the one used in Japan since the 1960's.

Journey times from London to Manchester would fall to 80 minutes from 2 hours 10 minutes.
